Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Nope I just called their regular toll free 1 (800) 731-4000. Press 1 for English, 4 for Transfer and then 2 to get to an agent. Usually less than 5 min wait in the morning and maybe 10 min towards their closing time in the afternoon.

Isn't that the CFP number where they are primarily responsible for licenses and renewals? From what I know, you have to call the local CFO (in my case the Ontario number I provided) for Restricted purchases made privately or from a store.

So just to be sure, I called the 1800 number for CFP. And yes, they answered the phone after a mild wait, and can answer about licenses/renewals. But firearms transfers are via the CFO, so back to making calls to the CFO. :)

Purchased from retailer March 16th Transfer approved April 14th
Ontario-Ontario

Woohoo, this got my hopes up! Thanks Tin!

Been waiting on a transfer from retailer since March 6th, but my second item purchased March 12th was approved april 7th.

This is a really finicky weird way they have of doing things down there that I just dont understand lol

Did you answer your own question in quotes from yourself?
Don’t know you you talked to but the CFO isn’t accepting calls and wants you to email them for any inquiries.
I called the 1800 CFP # today to conduct some transfers.
“Press Option 1 for English > 4 for TRANSFERS > 2 for agent”

selling transfer ONT > BC
Buying transfer QUE > ONT (initiated April 9) he said it was already at Ontario CFO for final approval.

Will update when completed

I’ve always called the same main 1 (800) 731-4000 number for transfers and for PAL validations. Like I said, press 1 for English or 2 for francais and then 4. If you just want to verify someone’s PAL then press 1, or to start or complete a transfer, press 2. I usually connect on the first try in the morning or you might have to try a couple of times after 2pm or so.

Waiting since Feb 24th. ON -> QC though.

You are almost there. I initiated a transfer on Feb. 20th, the BC RCMP E-Division approved the transfer on the same day, then it went back to the Ottawa registry for the final approval. Called in couple of times to the 1-800-# and finally told it was completed on April 6. The call center lady said that I was lucky that I started the initiation in Feb. 2020. it's a minimum 2-3 months wait for anything initiated after March. 2020.

Well they do it quick in Nova Scotia too. I sold a prohibited handgun to a great fellow CGNer-(KPC) and we started the transfer at 10am on April 6th. I just got the email notification that the transfer is complete about 10min ago so 9 days and 2 hours. Now have to go get the ATT so I can ship it.

That's right - I answered myself so in future anyone who is confused can see the distinction.

CFP is for licenses and renewals
CFO is for firearm purchase transfers (mine is a restricted firearm from an online retailer so waiting for the CFO to approve that transfer)

Called the CFO on Tuesday and they said they are processing March 12 for retail transfers and March 6 for private transfers.

Based on 2018 data, the top 4 provinces for firearms licenses are:
ON - 616,489
QC - 500,058
AB - 316,791
BC - 301,775

How is it that ON with twice as many licensed gun owners than AB takes 30 times longer to process transfers???? I am reading about transfer times of a couple days in AB whereas were are in the weeks/months in ON?

The ratios make no sense!!!!

Because in AB, political issues are kept out of the office of the CFO.....here in Ontario , it’s the only thing that seems to matter.

I’m waiting on two in Ontario from early April. I’m guessing mid/late May? Oh well, not like I have anywhere to shoot them.
