Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Called the CFO on Tuesday and they said they are processing March 12 for retail transfers and March 6 for private transfers.

Based on 2018 data, the top 4 provinces for firearms licenses are:
ON - 616,489
QC - 500,058
AB - 316,791
BC - 301,775

How is it that ON with twice as many licensed gun owners than AB takes 30 times longer to process transfers???? I am reading about transfer times of a couple days in AB whereas were are in the weeks/months in ON?

The ratios make no sense!!!!

So, 2 weeks later and they are saying they are into March 15th transfers now ??? In two weeks they got 2 days of transfers done

Should i be worried?
I have one March 8th and one March 19th. On-on stores. the store took care of everything so I didn't call anyone yet..

Store transfer (ON -ON) started Apr 7 approved today. Private transfer started March 20 (On-On) still waiting.

Still waiting for a store transfer On-On. Purchased in the 27th of March

How does this work? Logic would dictate you go in order ascending by date. Wouldn’t it?
Does it matter if it’s your first or not? If you buy from a big box store vs small shop?

I bet CFO is still in the paper era and just started to use computers as a fancy typewriter....

The way things are in ON, you buy a new restricted and take possession of a collectible item by the time it is approved.

When my wife entered mat. leave, it was technically a continuation of a short EI period from months prior due to her going off work to take care of my daughter who suffered an injury. It took 6 weeks because "if you continue an EI claim it has to be put through on paper because our 30 year old system can't handle the task".

I have no doubt other government departments are still using paper.

I know man :/ They are either clueless/lazy about the dates or taking their sweet time to justify being paid.

Once my transfers go through, I am contacting the ombudsman. I just don't want them screwing with my transfers before then.

Some parts of the government still use those ancient credit card machines that makes a carbon copy. Hilarious and sad all at the same time.

No, they have at least 3 different queues.

Auctions first priority.
Retail purchases get 2nd priority.
Private transfers are bottom of the pile priority.

They are still processing March 15th.

I really don't get why it takes so long to do a transfer. They should be able to process dozens of them in an hour. I mean there are three things to check:
1. Valid PAL - 30 seconds
2. Criminal record via CPIC - 30 seconds
3. Firearm falls under license class - 30 seconds

I have had an approval done while I waited on the phone and it took less than a minute. I dont buy the workload argument at all!

Got my Ontario restricted transfer store initiated on 15 Mar 2020, finally came through 27 Apr 2020.
A bit more than six weeks!

I don't think I would want the employees of the CFC working from home.
I agree it would be better for their personal safety with regards to Covid19 etc.

I would rather see the CFC have them use every other call desk and keep them separated.
Maybe have some people work different days etc.

But for security of the data, I sure dont want them taking a laptop home and using a non-firewalled internet connection and having someone hack all the CFC data.
I can wait an extra couple weeks for the sake of secure data. Maybe you can't?

BTW, firearms are flying off the shelves in most stores, and there are lots of non commercial transfers as well.
I don't doubt they are swamped.

I have 2 I am waiting for...i can wait

My wife works from home for Manulife. Super sensitive company and customer info, but they have VPN and firewall systems set up to keep it all safe through my home internet. All you need is a hard line (not wifi) and the right software. There's zero reason why CFO folks can't work from home in the 21st century.

I'm with the folks in here who think the crazy Ontario delays are political. It IS the heart of Libtard Land, after all.
