Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Please note tables I have created are pure guesstimates, so many factors makes it super inaccurate. I assume 1/3 of transfers everyday is from Ontario, that could change day by day, so for example June 1st there could 50% of transfers from Ontario we just do not know. I wish CFO would be open and publish these stats themselves.
I wish all government departments were more transparent (as promised during the election) and we would know what is happening, passports???

I also believe this is more the issue of summer vacations started with CIVIC holiday in Ontario, and also the fact that we just do not hear all transfers going through in this thread.

My take on what is going on?

You are getting exactly what you asked for. All those letters to the ombudsman/ministers/premiere asking for a review, has created a minister's order to review procedure. That will put an immediate stop to the current procedure. Because it is public safety and independent review group will need to be created to conduct the review.

These reviews can take anywhere from a few days to a few months depending on what they find. I guess congratulations on getting what you asked for.

HAHAHAHA.....good one. I needed a good laugh today.

Finding people in other threads who are saying they still have outstanding May 31 and June 1 transfers. I don’t think they have any intentions of speeding up the process either. Imagine if another public service was this backlogged? Remember the outrage and media attention surrounding passport offices when they were struggling to keep up?

Mine went in on Aug 3rd. 5982***.... 7000 transfer requests in 3 days?! This is a living nightmare.

I'm surprised more store owners aren't up in arms over having to store thousands of handguns while transfers are approved.
Apparently one store in BC complained to their CFO (indirectly somehow) and had all their transfers approved in a batch.

Over the last week, it seems like we went from 50-150 transfers a day, to zero.

You also have to keep in mind, that not everyone in Ontario that bought a handgun is on CGN, and not every member of CGN who bought, is posting their Transfer numbers or if/when they received their purchase. So just because the contributors here aren't receiving anything doesn't mean no one is.

More then likely it has slowed down due to the time of the year, but then again for all we know they take their vacations over the winter to warmer climates and are just too slammed with volume right now to go any quicker.

And the rocket scientists came up with a great plan for the passport offices... they ordered additional chairs so people wouldn't have to stand.

This is the level of brilliance that our tax dollars pay for...

I was told at Tenda yesterday the Ontario CFO is still working on transfers from end of May - June 1st. If you are after June 1st you are probably still looking at 3-4 weeks.

I think its safe to assume that unless 1. they go to batch processing, 2. other provinces help out, 3. more staff is hired, we're looking at a year+ wait on some transfers. The logic is that 1. they had a running backlog even before panic buys, 2. more than a year's worth of guns have sold in the last couple of months, it would make sense that unless something happens to speed it up, transfers initiated mid-late june will take that full year or more. Given bureaucracy's slowness to implement any kind of change, I've kind of resigned myself to a long wait. By the time the complaints result in some sort of change, half the transfers will be done and we'll be in the next year already...
I'm just going to spare myself some anger. Hate the game not the player.

5977### 07-27 guess i am in for a long wait.

maybe we should all be emailing Ford direct and forget about MPP's. a thousand emails to the premier is better than 100's to various mpp's... I will be writing him direct tomorrow, my conservative MPP never even answered the last email i sent about open gun ammo purchase books for all to see at various national hardware stores...

What does the transfer process actually involve? Verify the buyers PAL, ensure the serial number aligns with what they have on file? I really struggle to understand what occurs here which could not be performed automatically

Bureaucracy and automation do not mix. I'd imagine also, that the system they are working with is probably a legacy system developed from who knows when. Probably involves both paper and electronic entry, maybe an abacus and likely some sort of written/stamp approval from someone specific.

There may be a magic wand involved as well. :stirthepot2:
Actually bureaucracy is ideal for automation.

Stitching your 2 post together, I assume we have approval of 5891650 on Aug 9. This means we have had around 75 approvals again for last week or so, so we should have another 2 to 3 weeks of June 1st initiated transfers. There is hope :)
Seems like I also had a typo for May 31 transfer # that I corrected (5890300 not 5893000 :( ), I do apologize.

High 5891's currently , That came through yesterday

Here is updated chart based on new data:
