UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Hey guys...my 73 year old eyes finally made me do it. My Rossi and I have entered the 21st century:

Some may call it sacrilegious but I call it a necessity....just can't focus on open sights any more. She is chambered in 45 Colt I just ran my BC griz load thru the chrono it's a 300 grain Hornady giving me a muzzle velocity of 1401 fps for a muzzle energy of 1307 ft-lbs. Stand in front of that if you dare!

I'm crowding 60 now with a floater in me shootin' eye and put XS peep sights on my RH carbines. I use a Bushnell Holo Sight on my trap gun & have no issue with modern red dot sights. Compact reflex sights like the Burris Fast Fire work well and weigh ####-all. That 300 gr. Hornady will do the job on a big critter that don't know it's coming inside 50 yds. :)

Just curious as to where you got your full stock. Mine arrived from Boyds last week and it's a terrible fit so much so I don't think any scrapping or grinding is going to help especially since the hole for the tang screw has been drilled.

You will just need to reposition the hole once you have it fit.

Is the tang fitting tight right now and pushing out and separating the stock at all in the wrist area? Reason I ask is there is quite the gap up near the hammer along the side....

What tics me off is the fact that it was bought pre-finished ready to install. Now they do say some minor fitting may be necessary but this goes way beyond that so much so if and when i do get it to fit I will have to refinish the complete stock. I sent an email to Boyds with photos so I expect them to reply after Easter is over.

Shellshuckers stock looks pretty nice.

Mine came from Boyds exactly like that! The gunsmith had to adjust the stock . He said that it was a pain and

he had to do major fitting. There is still wood left proud near the tang and receiver and my guess us that he didn't want to sand and

thinning to much as to weaken the stock...

Usually Boyds stock have a better fit but much work still needs to be done !

Looks like they sent you a blank and not a finished stock... Good to know as I was looking to buy one. I would think they could get it closer than that, even with extreme variations.
Was it a win1892 stock or rossi 1892 stock? I think they offer both

I got my stock from PGW & it required more work than the Boyd's one I fitted to a Rossi Trapper. Making the butt plate was a job of it's own.
;)

Just an update on my Boyd's stock. Boyds has stepped up to the plate with a big apology. They sent me a prepaid UPS label and what I did was visit my friendly dentist and scrounged some impression material and plaster of paris. I took and impression of the wrist area as it fits on the tang and then poured it up in plaster. I put this in the box along with the stock they sent me and sent it back.

I'll keep everyone undtaed.

My mares leg stocks needed a lot of fitting I ordered the rossi 92 stock for my rossi and it's finally coming together needs more work. Man boyds stock aren't even close especially the tang holes and the hand guard was the worst.

Just got the word from Boyd's that the stock I returned fits the mock up of the Rossi 92 receiver that they use on site. They said I must have an odd ball receiver. Personally I can't figure out why Rossi would have used one size receiver for their model 92 rifle and another for the Ranch Hand.

They offered to refund my money but I said send it back and I'll make it fit.
