Well let's look at what the law really says.
"Restricted weapon" means
So - restricted? No. It's not designed to fire semi auto. It's not designed to be used with one hand. It doesn't fold or telescope.
What about prohib'd?
So - if the firearm is ALTERED to be less than 660, then it's prohibed. But what if it was built that way?
It has been accepted by the CFC that if it comes from a licensed manufacturer that way it's ok. THat's how we get 12 inch barreled shotguns. Or 8 inch. That's well established.
Did we ALTER this firearm to be less than 660? No - it was made that way.
Now - there is SOME grey area for after market parts - if i put a manufactured pistol grip on a shotgun - did I 'alter' it? Or if i buy a manufactured 12 inch barrel and swap it out for my longer barrel and the length is now under 660 did I 'alter' it?
The answer has generally been accepted as 'no'. I didn't alter the gun, i simply changed a part. I didn't saw or modify anything. That's how these parts come.
But - in this case even THAT isn't an issue - the gun COMES this way so i'm not altering it in the slightest. That's how it was made.
So - legal in Canada. There is no law which says that the length of the gun for non-semi-auto's must be a certain length, it just says you can't ALTER it to make it shorter than a certain length, and that it cannot be made shorter by 'folding, telescoping' etc of the stock. In fact - if you could make it shorter by taking the stock right off you'd probably be safe
it also isn't prohibited by name. It is not contained on the list of expressly prohibited guns.
Therefore - it's non restricted.
Might a future liberal gov't put the name on the prohib'd list? Maybe - but that will cause all sorts of problems especially if the CPC kills the LGR and if enough time has passed that we have a lot of them sold in Canada.
All the more reason to elect a cpc majority.
