UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

If you wanted it to cycle even faster, a small set screw in the right spot in the lever works wonders. I don't know about drilling, and tapping into what must be a MIM part. Might weaken it too much.

zip ties also work if you get 'em right :)

But it's a very dangerous modification. Cycling the gun will fire it, and that would be a stunningly easy mistake to make.

I cannot believe you asked that on a DEALER thread dedicated to the gun, in which the price is mentioned.

The gun IS available - wanstalls sells them but unfortunately they tend to sell out as soon as they get some in, and then you have to wait for the next batch.

Wanstalls also sells the Chiappa mare's leg (which is very nice). it costs more but it's a nice gun and an inch shorter than the rossi.

i have the rossi in 44 which i bought from wanstalls. You can pm gary to get an idea of pricing and when the next batch is in. I know of one other store in the lower mainland who had a rossi in, but it was in 357 mag.

The Chiappa ML is also available in a "Takedown" version that breaks into 3 parts: 1) the 92 clone action and stub, 2) the magazine tube that threads into the receiver when assembled, 3) the fore-end and barrel.
The disassembled gun will fit into an ordinary business sized brief case with plenty of room to spare.
They were on sale for $1000-$1300 in the USA as pistols the last time I was down.

The one gary had was the take down version, and i think it was just over 1000.

Both the chiappa and the rossi have long since been classified by the RCMP as non restricted. I think it must have been the clerk.

The RCMP is known for their Musical Ride featuring trained horses and their Musical Firearms Classification System featuring trained and saddle broken politicians.
What's non-restricted today could very well become based on a whim restricted or prohibited tomorrow with the same ole, same ole "We made an honest mistake" explanation.
The Mounties and their bureaucratic "helpers" in the CFOs and CFC have become a quasi-legislative body in many respects.
I was kinda hoping that a federal government would be elected that would reign this maverick police force in but alas that hasn't happened to date.
I think Wholesale Sports is taking a wise precaution backing away from this one.
Being caught in the "between a rock and a hard place" position the prime investors were with
the T-97s is not an enviable situation.

I got the Chiappa take down ML and getting the Chappa carbine with the 12 inch barrel

I was looking at the carbine on the Doc Rowland (a NB legacy arms dealer) site.
Lovely firearm but too darn expensive!
By the way is that carbine a good shooter?
What caliber is yours in?

If Chiappa made the 20" "Takedown" carbine in .44 Mag I'd be interested but according to the Chiappa website the only choices are .357 Mag, .38-40, .44-40, .45LC.
The .45LC can be beefed up by hand loading to .44 Mag power levels if the rifle is strong enough.
The .38-40 and .44-40 are anemic, hard to find factory ammo for and finicky to hand load with their unorthodox bottleneck configurations.
If they decide to make a .44 Mag in the carbine takedown model I'd buy one.

Don't think it would work with a Marlin action though as the trigger won't budge at all unless the lever is locked up tight against the stock.

The more I play with mine the more I think an 11" length of pull or so would make this gun absolutely perfect, for me, so I am gonna mod mine and find out.

Anyone know of a place to pickup a full stock on the cheap?

I posted a WTB just curious if anyone here may know a source.

Great gun, my accuracy as a pistol is just not as good as I'd like, and I want to run HOT ammo through it and I am not keen on doing that free handed. :)

Yep. 240 grain loads I shoot in the Marlin that aren't all that thumpy on the shoulder are a little ouchy on the hands out of the Mare's leg.

The guy on the Rossi forum is talking about a takedown Chiappa Mare's Leg with a 12" barrel in .44 Mag.
I'm talking about a takedown Chiappa carbine with a 20" barrel.
If there is a carbine takedown in .44 Mag I'd probably be interested.
The only takedown carbine I've seen in Canada is on the Doc Rowland site but it's in .357 Mag and too expensive.
The Wanstall site has been consistently significantly cheaper than the Rowland site for the same guns.

I guess the best bet to getting some Chiappa lever actions in for a reasonable price would be Gary from Wanstalls.
I think I'll email him for a quote on a Chiappa 16" barreled takedown carbine.
I can see that 16" takedown carbine being a real handy rucksack gun and much more USA friendly than the 12" barrel version.
I don't have a NYS pistol license and NYS considers rifles with barrels less than 16" as handguns and I get kinda nervous traveling back and forth across NYS from Canada to PA with pistols or handguns aboard the pickup.

No, doesn't work with the marlin unless you maybe tape up that lever safety.

Works fine with the rossi tho. But once you get going really you have to keep going till your out of ammo or cut the strap off :)
