URGENT - Safety issue - CCI Standard Velocity 22 LR Ammo

Looks like it fired "out of battery" ..... I had one similar in a Ruger Mk 1. It belonged to a friend who didn't think that it was necessary to clean a gun. I have a souvenir very similar to the one in the photo.

Here's an update on my claim. After some back and forth emails with the CCI support contact, I asked them why they were sending Canadian customers to fire or police stations instead of making arrangements with one of their Canadian distributors. They had the local distributor contact me who was very nice and understanding and took this situation as on as a priority and we got together and I passed on the two bricks I had of the serial number. Within a day or so I had confirmation from the CCI support rep that they received the ammo, and they would send out a US$ cheque (in 7-10 days) for the MSRP value this was on June 8th. On June 29th I sent another email to the CCI support rep to say I hadn't received anything, and the reply is:

"This has indeed been sent. For some reason Checks have been taking longer to get across the border lately so this may take some extra time and you should be receiving it shortly."

As of today I still don't have a cheque.

I expect that if I finally do receive a US$ cheque it will be marginally enough to cover the amount I paid and the bank will ding me for depositing a US$ cheque anyways leaving less than I could buy another couple of replacement bricks.

Not saying they shouldn't. But I keep guns around for ammo, other guns won't chamber.
And then, if someone get's hurt...

Their risk management lawyers (liars) will be telling them to admit to nothing, rather than to open up a flood of law suits.

The only gun I was presently shooting these in is my High Standard Bullseye Pistol. I can not afford to have it damaged so the rest of it is going through my TOZ single shot.

Ok… just make sure your bolt gun doesn’t have plastic magazines or it’s $60 a pop. And who knows if the accuracy is affected.
No, single shot, heavy steel gun. And yes, accuracy will definitely be affected on an overcharge or a ruptured case. Federal and Winchester 17 HMR would have a couple of cases per box rupture in my CZ455 Canadian, but luckily they never blue the mag out the bottom. Blew lots of soot in my face though. Surprisingly, Remington Ammo was the most accurate, and never blew up in that rifle.

The cheques in my mouth and I won't come in your mailbox.

Is the Canadian Distributor/importer Grey Wood?

Last week at handgun league, I was marking targets when there was a loud detonation on the firing line. The RO called a cease fire and asked if the shooter was ok.

The shooter had pulled the trigger and along with the loud report, the magazine had blown out of the pistol, with powder marks on the shooters hand. When we cleared the pistol, there was a headless case stuck in the chamber, we never found the case head. The detonation actually severly dented the cases of 2 unfired cartridges in the magazine.

We wrote it off as one of those things that happen but we have had a second incident this weekend. Both shooters were using CCI Standard Velocity 22LR ammo in blue 50 round boxes. A group of us bought a batch order a couple of years ago.

One of our shooters was using his Ruger 10/22 at the range and he had a detonation that blew the magazine out of the rifle and left powder marks all over his hand. The force of the detonation blew a chunk out of the side of the rotary magazine. The case head did not separate but was cracked open around most of the base of the rim. The lot number of this ammo is H21CA10. He had fired about 100 rounds when this occurred.

Attached are pictures of the 10/22 incident and I haven't received the pictures from the handgun incident yet or the lot number of that ammo.

Trying to find out who the Canadian distributor is for CCI ammo so we can flag the issue with them, as well as CCi.

More issues to report with C04E111. I know the store sold 6000 boxes of 100 recently...

I am going through the same thing... damage to several mags on two different pistols before it became clear it was the ammo.

Cci has been responsive by email but pretty demanding in the details including photos of the remaining unfired ammo. I bought it for training so I've got too much just to let it slide - its much more than a few bricks unfortunately. They have agreed to cover replacememt value for 2 of rhe mags (they would only cover those significant photo evidence of damage) plus the remaining ammo - it is not yet clear if they will cover my actual cost with shipping snd taxes or a cost they assign - I ordered bulk online so I at least have all receipts

I am at the stage of getting confirmation of receipt by police - so I will switch gears and try to get it back via a local distributor - I doubt CPS wants to deal with it during Stampede.

I can provide further updates if there is interest.

Please let us know how it goes. If you don't mind me asking, what type of pistols were you shooting and was there damage to each ones mags?

Mark IV Target - mags were disformed enough that they are very difficult to remove so not really usable, but CCI said they need to be significantly damaged before they will entertain anything.

Second pistol Pardini SP RF... the mag bottoms were completely destroyed and all the internals blew out - in once case across 8 bays at an indoor range before hitting a wall. CCi seems like they will be more accommodating on those.

Thanks for the info. Their definition of significantly damaged isn't what mine is and I'm sure you feel the same. That's brutal

I received a cheque today. $140USD will be just under $200CAD minus any extortion fees the bank dings me for depositing USD to CAD bank account. I paid about $170CAD from LGS so probably pocket change difference. Certainly no good will for my wife getting powder burns on her arm (which I sent pics of and reported) and the hassle of dealing with them to even get this amount. I can definitely say if I had been forced to deal with T.O. Police to pickup I would have got nothing because I would have disposed of it and written it off.

All in all a bad experience. I will not be replenishing any CCI anything once I run out of a case of mini mags, subsonic, and maxi mags.

Im not saying that I won't run into similar issues with other brands. But customer service from CCI is way lacking. Grey Wolf guys (CCI distributor) were great. They really stepped up to the plate for CCI as far as I'm concerned, but they could only take it so far.

In my mind, CCI should have told Grey Wolf to pick up ammo and pass over a case of same or better and comp them for it.

I just sent my T1X in to Stoeger Canada....the mag well is cracked, who knows if the headspace is ruined. CCI seems really good..they have offered to pay for the ammo if i turn it in and get it destroyed by the police (pain in the ass). They have indicated that I should send any gun fixing expenses to them...we will see how much they cover. Brand new Tikka. The gunsmith I spoke with suspects the thickness of the primer rim.
