Using cheap trap loads for defence?

Is it so much harder to just say you grabbed the shells you use for bear defense? It's not like we haven't done THAT discussion to death. :)

True 'nuff. I was more thinking of the "beanbag" suggestion -- that could play less well in court as evidence of preparing for an attack could be interpreted wrongly.

As "duck hunters" are about the most publicly accepted stereotype of a gun owner, what I was saying is that this might be the best thing to present ones self as. For whatever reasons, being prepared to defend yourself, even from bears, seems to be frowned upon by some segments of society. If you end up with a jury made up of these types, you want to appear as harmless as possible. "Killing winnie the pooh" is only marginally better in these people's eyes than killing the "poor underprivliged misunderstood burglar".

Slugs would be a better choice if we had a better legal environment, fer sure...

Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. You have to be alive to go to jail.

I make every possible attempt to comply with both the letter and spirit of the law, and I would MUCH prefer not to have to use ANY amount of force against anyone. However, when it comes right down to it, if it's between him dying or me dying, *his* next of kin is going to be the one paying for the coffin.

I continue to agree. :D

However I also remain convinced that 2-3 birdshot loads in the chest will solve most problems pretty darn well. There's a risk management problem here -- having birdshot around might be a pretty OK tradeoff if there's a low probability of incidents.

I think we pretty much agree on the fact that if ur FORCED to play that hand...well...stop the attack on u and yours right then and there. The ballistics are very interesting (the box of truth is great!) I say as someone who has had an related unfortunate experiance (non gun)that, take preventative measures. Alarms, big mean freeking dogs,lights,fences...whatever. One more thing to add...my neighbours and i know each other and our habits, friends and lifestyles...i really feel its important to watch each others 'backs' kinda like the way Canada used to be. My whole building is invited to my x-mas open house (even the drunk guy in #101) I say 'hi' and ask how the hell they are...In turn they make sure I get the mail put in their box by mistake, ensure the parking lot is locked, pat my pitdog and give her treats, even walked down the street with my girl when a neighbour saw her parking a bit far away...old school values,a sense of comunity, knowing and looking out for one another are really important...and I feel something that has been lost in the urban sprawl.

If that fails...well you know

For those intruders that still have functioning undrugged/unzombifide anal cortex's, there is still the incapacitating effect of intense PAIN!

I'd personally not want to be hit with any kind of shot, not to mention I have read that if you survive the long lasting toxic, and infectious effects are brutal.

For the record I keep several boxes 000 buck, and slugs around.
I'd love to get some bean bag rounds. :)

look at the halifx news I think last night some one took a load of bird shot to the back of the head and walked to the ambulance.

Bean Bags...... duh....

I guess the major point of disagreement here is that I'm not prepared to take that point as a given. IMO, intruders are much more likely to be drugged up than not.

yup... In Van. you can take that to the bank. I hear that 'over there' the insurgents are pumped full of opiates and such. Not being a druggy myself I can only 'imagine' (see previous post) what that would do to ones sense of fear/consiquence/pain etc...they will have none of those emotions or senses avalible...

I still vote for my pitdog and a katana... My 'pursuader'..well she has her own opinion on this matter at hand :D

good thread IMHO

You know, if the topic is HOME DEFENSE FROM HUMANS with a shotgun, I'd say 4 buck is your load!

Buckshot doesn't penetrate too well, and 4 buck penetrates les than 00.

Even an errant 4 buck pellet wouls be considerably slowed by 2 layers of drywall...

FOr bear, just use a slug.;)
