Shame they are in the $3500-$5000 range.
Aye, there are semi auto AK-47 variants in legal gun owners' hands (non restricted even!) and somehow the entire fabric of our f**king society has not torn itself to shreds all around us.
Yes, the irony of these being non-restricted is hilarious!!
For those that don't know, IWI bought stock Valmet parts right off the shelf to make the Galil.
Once this one is complete I'll look at converting one of my others to a Galil.
The hunter models can usually be had for around $2500, its the M78 that people really price gouge on. That is a damn nice rifle, .308, NR and AK to bootF**K lieberal
No Sir.
The story I always read about the Valmets (someone correct me if I'm wrong) was the government had gave a bunch of them to the natives for hunting years before the gun laws went retarded.
So because Natives had them already in however many numbers, they couldn't prohibit them because god f**king forbid we offend a minority group......
So in completely logical government thinking, these became the only variant of the AK that could be owned non restricted and didn't magically walk around on their own at night and kill babies like all the other evil variants.....
If it's true it's a god damned shame that they didn't give the natives a whole whack of semi auto FN FAL's while they were at it![]()
Since the Valmet is legal here, it would be nice if a Canadian company started producing them.
Especially if they could keep them under $700.
enefgee,
I would be nice to have a source of reasonably priced magazines!
I was able to jamb a Thurmold M-14 mag into the hunter with 5 dummy rounds, I could rack the action/hammer would drop/round would eject with all 5.
I was also able to do the same with M305 mags but they required a little emery cloth sanding on the sides.
I have access to a mig welder so the M305 mags seems to be a viable option as they only require 2 little tabs welded on. Of course these are I tight fit and don't exactly fall free. I suspect a little dremel cut on the back corners of the mag down 1.5" and reweld would loosen it up.

Never really benched the rifle, nor did I spend much time reloading for it... but...
- 155gr. HPBT with some Varget shot in about 2" at 100Y.
- Factory 150gr Winchester Power Point... 3"-4"
I wish my Finish would be better, apparently the "Petra" was a popular rifle... so you'd think that parts and accessories would be easier to find.
