VIDEO ADDED COMPLETED SKS BOLT ACTION by Canuck94

Nice project! That's a sweet setup. Holly hell do people on this forum take the fun out of life sometimes. It's like a that one uber negative arsehole gun counter guy multiplied and came on this forum to post on this specific thread. Awesome looking boomstick.

It's almost like it's a public forum where people come to voice theirs opinions....

Thanks. I tried to put the wood handguard back but it seemed to make the barrel look skinnier and longer. Maybe a low profile steel one might work but I don't know.

That's a good idea, you should try and bend up something. I always liked the ventilated metal handguards that were sold for the sks, would be nice to have something there aesthetically I think.

High Caliber has started stocking the metal handguards for the SKS is a few configurations but I would have to bend a custom one to fit the short space left.

In the meantime, I did change out the homemade knob for a K31 knob from Corwin.

Neat project, thanks for sharing.

I am really interested if you noticed a difference in accuracy by removing the gas system variable. There is a lot of speculation online that part of the accuracy issues with SKS's is due to the gas system affecting barrel harmonics.

I love the sights that you did, though I think I would have skipped the optics if I were doing it to create a really rugged handy and lightweight brush carbine.

Have you considered working on the crown, trigger and bedding?

No change in accuracy. It shot like an sks before and shot like an sks afterwards. Speculation on whether or not the bayonet etc is part of the design harmonics is that...speculation. It's ridiculous to assume that the designer gave much thought to the harmonic effect of the bayonet versus the effects the bayonet would have on the enemy.

so now that it is no longer a semi auto, could you run the full 10 round internal magazine?

The official reply was yes and no. Regardless of the action, it's the magazine that's registered. In other words if the mag was designed for a bolt action and was able to be installed in an sks it wouldn't make any difference on the capacity. In other words a 10 mag made specifically for a bolt action or pistol could be installed on an SKS or any semi and be legal with the increased capacity as long as you do not modify the mag to fit but modify the gun to accept the new mag. Conversely if you take a mag from an ak47 that is pinned at 5 shots, that mag must remained pinned regardless of the type of gun it would be attached to.

In their rush to make laws and make work for themselves, our bureaucracy missed the target by a country mile. All that it would have taken in the same law that has existed for my lifetime for shotguns. All shotguns used for hunting must be plugged to hold only 3 shells total.

The law should have read "All semi-auto center fired long guns can only have a capacity not to exceed 5 shots, all rim-fired and center fired handguns can only have a capacity not to exceed 10 shots. All others are not regulated.

Instead we have page after page of legalize garbage that can keep two lawyers arguing for decades to come without agreement.

I will put this one aside for the time being and search out another project. This was an interesting project and if I was asked, no I would not do another one, one being enough for now. I think this one looks pretty sharp for a converted clunker. What do you all think?

Neat project and enjoy the thread but too much debate on the mag size legality. I am sure you enjoyed working on it and that is all that matters. We all have to keep busy with our hobby / obsession or become couch potatoes.
