VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

ya it is essentially built apon the same receiver as the VZ58 but chambered for a 9mm. There is a small blurb on it on CZ's web site.

Anyone know.....is this a Micro Uzi? In Czech inventory?

I dont think they are Czech or Slovak soldiers. They have absolutely different boots, uniforms, from CR or SR army /either general wood camo, either desert camo/, they have not standard belts or leather magazine bags or bayonets holsters. they have some kind of Bazooka - in CR or SR there is much more usual RPG. they have some machine gun with upper magazine, maybe machine gun ZB vz. 26 or bren, and CR and SŔ armies have UK vz. 59 without magazine and with feeding from side.
Maybe if we would know original location of photo, we could tell more.

They might not be former chzechoslovakia soldiers at all. Could be Palestinian Rebels firing a rocket at Israel for all we know. Not enough info in pic IMHO.

grip is smooth, unlike the UZI. However we again are off topic.
I want to really see some of your mods that you have done to your VZ58 rifles.
 I want ideas.

Speaking to me, or generally? My mods will be revealed in a month when I'm done.

ah generally off topic. I am more interested in the mods and your pics specifically regrading the VZ58 :!:

Mods I have done so far
1) cylinder brake
2) folding stock
3) foam pad for folder.

Mods I am planning on
4) picatinny rail vented quad
5) attaching an ATN holo sight
6) giving mags a new coat of black enamal
7) New pistol grip AK or SAW

I talked to the Magic company several times and all I got for it is depression. They just dont call back with info. May be they dont want to sell it?
Just for info sake, the LADA system design was based on AK design, even the linked czech page states that and when you get your hands on it you will see it. AKs are stamped, VZ58 are machined, therefore more expensive. LADA was dumped because CZ would start manufacturing them only if the Army would order something like 40 000 of them at once. And the Army didnt. Now the system is considered obsolete. VZ58 has a good design, all the mentioned parts work well. The army knows it is hard to brake the VZ. Just consider the 58 is the year of adoption into service, it is an old rifle. CZ presented some modifications of VZ58 on a trade show this year. The 40mm granade launchers are not M203, they are czech design, but how much different could they be? The 26,5 mm granade launcher is much more interesting for collecting purpose, because only prototypes have been manufactured in the 80'. It has never been accepted for service. Nice pics, people.

I really do like the GP brake. It tames the muzzle rise considerably. I saw a prototype updated Slovak 58 with an optical sight and scope mount. Maybe it is a MEO 50. I think they are trying to do with such a sight what the Elcan did here.
