VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Im in the us and i plan on buying a vz58 here from

http://w w w.czechpoint-usa.com/products/vz-58-rifles/

i came here for info and got it thanks(took long for those 430 pages), but one question why no love for d technik as our importer? i hear nothing buy good things about our vz58s and see no reliability issues and we have great customer service and a 5 year warranty.. Is seems like there's a distaste for them here(canada). Im sure our future accessories as yours will benefit us both. just wondering if there is something about the company i need to be aware of and weather its gonna affect the quality of our vzs, even though i haven't seen any issues as of yet.

Only thing i don't like on our rifles is the lack of a bayonet lug, and the brake has to be permanently attached but you can at-least get the military brake from the factory.

Welcome. There are several companies making this type of rifle, some better than others, but I consider all of them very good. I know czechpoint stands behind their stuff, so no concerns for you. Any fixes we have had to do here have been supported (for the most part) by our importers. Your laws have dictated the modifications you described. If you are a purist, buy a registered SBR version, then? Honestly, the difference is only an inch of barrel, so get the longer version and be happy to have it.

I will be happy with the longer version i have seen people here(usa) adding a bayonet lug(after the fact) and i hear that Czechpoint is working on a scope mount of sorts belive its actually a Canadian design(nea) so thanks for the inovation, im in love with the rifle now after 430 pages of conditioning i beleive im a little biased now, but i need a good rifle and the ar15(round, stock doesn't fold) nor the ak47(accuracy, weight) really do it for me, and anything else i like is worth more than my car so it led me to this rifle. Weight price and ammo/round is what my criteria is, and this fits the bill.
By the way im not to far away im in Vermont, most lax gun laws in the nation.

I am not sure how you will add a bayonet lug/front sight after the fact if the brake is welded on.

Don't go to zahal.org looking for stuff as it will feed the habit. ;)

They have been taking them to a gunsmith, that's the only way to get the exact muzzle attachment they want to, but i believe its more trouble than its worth. it involves taking it off to the threads and re-welding a new one on, its not welded all the way around on the inside of the brake only spot welded, i was hoping someone would come up with a threaded barrel extention attachment so we could switch on the the fly but i don't see that happening :(
all this for less than an inch, what crap. But yes im already feeding the vz monster inside with all these accessory's popping up not going to turn it into an ar though, as much as i like legos.

The brake is not welded directly to the threads. It can be removed. On the new .223 version a sleeve is welded on over the threads that can also be removed.

CZ 858 Gremlin

Finally I know whats going on with my NEW Cz 858.

Question- where can we purchase the "fixed" bolt carrier in Canada? I see Wolverine has a "parts" kit that has a bolt carrier, is it the "fixed" version or the "Gremlin" version?

Also, can we order a "fixed" bolt carrier from the USA or is this illegal to import?

that is not entirely true. The barrel extensions are plug welded directly to the threads, however they are not difficult for any competent smith to remove, the .223 version coming soon will have a 16" barrel so an atf approved permanent attachment method is not required, a simple tack weld to cover threads is sufficient for importing.

it is legal to import afaik but czeechpoint, won't ship to canada. easy mod for a decent welder.

How the hell do you remove the extractor from the bolt?

take a small awl hold it in your hand 90 egrees to bolt, use it to pull back on the spring plunger, then roll the front of the extractor inward toward bolt, the rear should then pop out. It's very difficult until you've done it several times. After about 100 times I make it look very easy

No, but it is legal for the Company in the Czech Rep. to ship to you directly. I've ordered many parts from them. The factory doesn't have the ability to process credit cards, so you have to do a wire transfer. But their prices are pretty good, slightly more to ship however.

PM me if you want contact info for the Czech plant.
