VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

you could but the lenght of pull would be too long as you would have to attach the ak47 rear trunion to the back of the vz58 to add have the folder that would add about 2 "

the folding ak trunny is also hollow as it fits inside the sheet metal akm recievrs so you would need to machine a complete trunny big pita

Thats ok, As most of us have Orangutan arms anyway :D

My first one might have been a lemon, but my SKS I had was much worse....much worse, it wouldn't even hit paper at 50 yards (It was an SKS-D though). I have shot other SKS's and have found my cZ to be a better gun.

Rolling rock- I was consistently hitting clay pigeons out 150 yds with my cz. I have a friend who was there with his scoped AR-180B, and he was amazed how accurate the czech piece of crap was.

Man, did you sight your SKS in?:D I guess you didn't even bother eh? But if you know how to sight it in, you won't say this. Okay, I'm gonna cut my bull#### and talk serious. It could happen that some people might be comfortable with certain types of guns and uncomfortable with others. Like myself I don't like Bush Ranger with either original Ruger or Norinco copy. They might be good but I just don't like handling them. Same thing could happen to you. :) But for $600 I won't bother getting another gun in 7.62x39.

50% of the AK's legendary reliability has to do with the lack of cartridge deformity due to steel casings...The brass casings can deform and bend far too easily on such militaria firearms.

Take the heed given by Contact148...use steel casings. It is probably what the rifles were designed for in the first place

Who has the CZ858 rifle in stock?

I called Williams Arms and there out of stock and they don't know when the next shipment is coming in, they told me to call back in a month. I suspect their waiting for the next shipment from Wolverine supplies, i would like to get my hands on one, before there all bought! If anyone knows of a store in southeastern ontario that has them in stock, please let me know. Thanks

most people i know find the length too short. i find my nose alittle sore from hitting the reciever after a while.

I had The same problem Its the neck on the AE 7.62x39 try surplus 7.62x39 look for number or letter codes like 3,17,21,60, ayn, bxn,iz,zv its all soviet and czech

lol, of course I tried sighting it in. i had the fron sight all the way to the right, and it was still shooting to the right By like a foot at 50 yards. Considering the version of the vz they sell in the states is 1200$, 650$ canadian is not a big deal imho.

My sks may have been a lemon. It always functioned but I cuoldn't even put a 12" group on paper at 100. To make matters worse it had the most unpredictable trigger pull too. It may break right at the beginning nice and crisp then tnext shot I'm squeezing it against the guard to get it to go. My friend had one as weel that did the same thing. To make matters worse his magazine follower bent after about 20 rounds so it wouldn't hold open. I had mine in a vise trying to get it to put a group on paper and gave up. It was worth what I paid for it but not much more. I had the pleasure of shooting a cz 858 and found it much more predictable and more accurate. Some people keep tell me that their sks shoots tight groups but I have yet to see it.

Thanks for all the replies, but i'm kind of looking for a place around here where i could handle the rifle and see if its something i want to purchase!
Stouffville is not far from where i live, Cpt. Canuck how much did you have to pay at the Target Sport Center? Do you have their phone number and address? And do they have a website? Thanks

I have both an SKS and a VZ.
I got my SKS for 165$ and my VZ for 375$.
I still think the VZ is twice the gun the SKS will ever be.
Quality of manufacture is very solid. The only thing that may come off as iffy looking quality on the VZ is that it is sandblasted all around, even the inside.
But I measured the tolerances for parallelism, and they are great.
Accuracy is quite decent when compared to an SKS.
Only my .02

CZ858 front site windage adjustment

As this gun is very new to me and I have read the manual a few times but I still can't figure out how to adjust the damn front site for windage. It is shooting approx 3 inches to the left at 40 yards. Thanks in advance!
