VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

    Votes: 1,507 70.4%
  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

    Votes: 166 7.7%
  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

I have perfected the painting of wood to look like the plastic resin stock. I actually like that look.I just haven't done the pistol grip yet. It is one inch longer and ergonomic.

The forward grip is ugly to be sure, but it took trial and error to come up with an ergonomic shape that was also small. What everyone doesn't tell you is that most long vertical grips prevent the magazine from coming out as easily.

The bell flash elim is for fun. I don't know if it makes a diff in recoil or not.

The pistol grip will match the colour of both regular furniture and tanned, if you'll ever want to switch. Forward grip shape is interesting, probably it took a lot of work.
First thought when I saw the flash hider was Deghtyarev 27(29):) but that is quite longer than the one in the picture. I didn't know what the UK 59 was:confused: I had to google it. I wonder if that flash hider increases recoil.

The look of the whole gun with flash hider (if it didn't have the vertical foregrip) would be screaming for bipod, a high one to accomodate the magazine.

Interesting look... do it yourself project...:)
I hope we'll get rid of these stupid gun laws and one day I'll be able to post pics of something inspired by that EZB:eek: but made by me.

Can we please have that poll fixed to include a "no problems" category?

The lack of objectivity is bugging me. I really do want to know how many folks have had no problems because I am considering getting one of these rifles.

Come on guys, who has permission to change the poll? It has been changed once, let's update it. I want facts, not anecdotal comments.

Thanks!

SB

No problems with my 858 Tac-2 here either. I've done about 400 rnds, both range and gopher patrol, with both Czech Surplus and Norc Silver box.

Many movie players these days have capture function. Tell me which movie, and I'll see if I can find it, and capture it.
Thanks for responding to this:)
Here it is:
FULL METAL JACKET (1987).
In one of the last scenes of the movie, a VC sniper (a young girl) turns and shoots from the hip. In the movie, this already runs in slo-mo, so if you put your DVD in slo-mo, it runs practically frame by frame. As she turns in slo-mo, you can see a little from the shape of the gun butstock, the charging handle, the front part of the barrel and then you realize that it’s not what you thought, it’s a 58:D (Yes, Deckard, you missed that one:p ).

I think you can put few frames as pics on this thread, pics where you can make the shape of the gun (or parts of), because this IS a 58 thread:cool:

The movie it’s not digital, I think it’s digitally re-mastered, so pics have to be transferred without compromising quality. If you work on it and take your time, you can select something to look good. Make sure you know what you are doing before posting. If not, maybe one day somebody will have the time and will to do it. Now, you guys know were to find it. I would have done it myself, but unfortunately I lack the technology and skills.

I also think that (because it run for too long on lipstick and toy-guns:rolleyes: ) the thread called “Girls with guns” is IN BEGGING NEED of a couple of frames from the same scene with the girl and the 58 :D:p

Whoever does it, has to take his time and choose the frames wisely.
Good luck and thanks:)

palinak, can you post some close-ups of that fore-pistol-grip, both deployed and folded?

Also, I think the muzzle-brake needs some more pics, side, top and front. For clarification of the member public, that is. Thank you.
I don't believe it looks so cool AND it works better than anything I had on a gun before. Anyway, I'll be back with a full report on the muzzle-brake.

no problem will do. I have some friends visiting from Toronto and gonna take em out shooting so I'll take a few pictures.

You will be pleasantly surprised with functionality and looking forward to the report.

I wasn't talking about the movie. I think everybody on this site saw the movie.
I was talking about missing a 58 in spite of your high skills in the fine art of arms recognition and identification. ;), namely of 58's. :p Lol, JK:)
