Hi guys. I have recently bought a VZ58 and am looking to install optics. i wanted the gun-xpert QR dust cover mount, but its not allowed to be shipped outside the EU, or so says the manufacturer. Anyways, needless to say, i am looking at other options. 2 questions for everyone. Does the dust cover mount (eg. Zahal) lose zero each time it is removed and installed? i will be shooting corrosive ammo, so this could be an issue for me in that i will be removing it after every range/bush trip. Second question, and please forgive my ignorance and stupidity if someone else came up with this idea already, and was laughed out of the thread. But, here goes, has anyone experimented with an offset scope mount on the VZ's in order to use a longer optic and move it out of the ejection path of the spent casings? I'm not sure if "offset" in the right term to use, but i am talking about mounting the scope to the side of the rifles centreline, since the empty casings eject up, they shouldn't impact the scope. I have seen some old russian rifles like the mosin nagant with similar mounts. i was thinking of using an offset mount like that, then using a scope similar to the one in post above by serbinator. This way, you could mount the optic further forward and hopefully still be out of the way of the ejection path. has anyone else thought of this? seen this? experimented with this?
