Losing rear irons??

Can someone who has the CSA low mount tell me how long the rail is? I wonder if a Primary Arms 4x 7.62 BDC would fit without hanging out front and possibly getting banged up by spent casings...

I'm hoping a 5 inch scope can mount on it...

was also looking at primary arms 4x... but no one carries it in canada :(

Guys,

Can someone please confirm if you can safely mount a 5.5 inch optic on the CSA side rail? I am aware the rail itself is about 3.75 inches but it appears like its got at least an extra inch until the end of the dust cover...
I am sure others have done it, I just want confirmation before I go ahead and order the mount and associated optics with it.

i mounted a bushnell AR tactical 1-4x24 scope with medium rings ( for an AR) on my low profile mount as a test fit for my soon to be Hi Lux AK scope. here is how it looks.

this scope is roughly 9-10 inches in length fyi.

Hi guys. I have recently bought a VZ58 and am looking to install optics. i wanted the gun-xpert QR dust cover mount, but its not allowed to be shipped outside the EU, or so says the manufacturer. Anyways, needless to say, i am looking at other options. 2 questions for everyone. Does the dust cover mount (eg. Zahal) lose zero each time it is removed and installed? i will be shooting corrosive ammo, so this could be an issue for me in that i will be removing it after every range/bush trip. Second question, and please forgive my ignorance and stupidity if someone else came up with this idea already, and was laughed out of the thread. But, here goes, has anyone experimented with an offset scope mount on the VZ's in order to use a longer optic and move it out of the ejection path of the spent casings? I'm not sure if "offset" in the right term to use, but i am talking about mounting the scope to the side of the rifles centreline, since the empty casings eject up, they shouldn't impact the scope. I have seen some old russian rifles like the mosin nagant with similar mounts. i was thinking of using an offset mount like that, then using a scope similar to the one in post above by serbinator. This way, you could mount the optic further forward and hopefully still be out of the way of the ejection path. has anyone else thought of this? seen this? experimented with this?

Don't have the photo anymore but yes off set mount can be used. There is Made in Russia SVD mount that is straight and will set your scope to the side sort of like Galil sniper. Worked for me with 1x4 scope. To your other questions qd gun expert mount is too narrow for CSA vz 58 it will only work on military spec rifles like cz 858. The mount which is sold by zahal from israel or corwin-arms from Kamloops BC both sponsors here will not loose zero when reinstalled. Both gunexpert mount and the one sold by corwin and zahal have Czech military certifications they are good products. Zahals drop ships from Czech republic Corwin ships from Canada

I mounted a Nikon P223 offset using the standard low profile scope mount and 2 1" flashlight mounts and some loctite. It worked really well actually, allowed me to have a longer scope that never got hit by ejected brass

Never thought of this. Can you still maintain a proper cheek weld?

Great ideas here.
Any ideas of what mount was used on this rifle? Holes look pretty high, I may just get them filled if I can't find the mount

Nice setup. I bought a similar configuration (Vortex 1-6x30) with low rings. With the scope at 10.5" in length with about 3.5" eye relief I find I need to get the scope forward about 2 to 3 inches. I cant seem to find any companies here in Canada that sell a cantilever mount with 2 or 3" offset.

Anyone know of any Canadian outfits that sell cantilever scope mounts?
