VZ58: Optics, sights & mounts. update sept

Have side mounting POSP scopes gone out of style now? Nothing against other mounts, some of them look fantastic, it's just I like the look of the Russian style side mount on a CZ 858. I've got a POSP scope on the way but haven't be able to find a side rail to mount it on.

Anybody know where someone could acquire one of those Kasat SVD style mounts? I'd love to get my grummy hands on one of those.

They've been great with me so far. Kind of those 'go the extra mile' type of guys.

This one is an AK mount for a 4x POSP on my CSA 858 11"

I believe Interammo holds the POSP import warranty licence for Canada and they're a site sponsor as well.

Thanks Incorrigible.

I already checked interammo out. They have some nice stuff and I plan on getting the case deflector for my POSP scope I have on the way. All I need now is a side rail. Anyone?

i was going to mount a vortex spark on my sa 58 with the side mount anyone try this yet? and who has the best price on a vortex spark in ontario??

Your best bet would be One Shot Tactical Supplies (see banner above). I can't tell you whether or not they have the best price but their customer service is top notch and they stand behind their product. If anything was to happen to it, they would take care of any warranty issues for you.

It's hard to put a price on service like that.

I see that Interammo dont have their side rail in stock now, maybe you could contact them to see if they will get more of thoses? I have installed their rail and work really good, also have the posp case deflector. really good products.

I did get in contact with them and they said that they are hoping to get more in April so I`m going to keep my open for them. I'm also going to pick up one of those case deflectors that are to be attached to the scope. They look really sharp in the pictures.

Anyone tried mounting an Elcan C79 or a Specter DR on the CZ using NEA's adapter? I'm curious to see how it would look and function.

Might be a little overkill and a ridiculous height over bore but I'm curious. :p

Going to try the PK-A on my new CSA Carbine. It cam with the side rail, figured I might as well use it. I'm afraid the spent casings will hit it as they seem to go up more than to the right. Should be able to get out to the range Thursday and find out.

Very very nice, let us know how the PK-A works out on that stock rail.

I haven't had a problem with mine yet. I do get an occasional (rare) ejected case stuck in the closing breech, but this is with a certain brand of ammo (I have a 223 model) and happens without the scope in place.

Anyone have any experience with NC Star scopes? I'm thinking of buying one of their Mk III Tactical Series 4x32 with that quick release picatinny mount. I have a NEA cantilever mount and stock adapter. Will that quick release stay tight?

Don't know about the QR mount - perhaps someone else can comment on that. My experience was with the optics.

NCStar are not generally thought of as "High End" optics. Having said that, some owners report their NCStar scope lasting through earthquakes, high water, thousands of rounds, and abuse, while others complain that the quality and durability is so-so.

My own experience was not positive. :( I purchased one of their larger variable power scopes to put on a .17 HMR - and the price was by no means "bargain". I found it had poor clarity and focus at any setting, and that the light transmission was extremely poor. The reticle could not be centered.

Side by side with a Bushnell Banner (low end of the Bushnell product range) of roughly the same optical specs, my NCStar didn't come close - and the Banners are generally regarded as "cheap scopes".

I ended up returning the scope to the seller and eventually got a refund - even the seller agreed that the scope I had received was a bad 'un.

Maybe I got one made on a Friday afternoon, or maybe it was just a fluke that mine made it past quality control checks. No way to tell.

In optics, perhaps more than in any other area, you really do get what you pay for. The Mk III Tactical Series 4x32 may be the greatest thing since smokeless powder. YMMV and Caveat Emptor.

Be careful with Ncstar as when it comes to optics, you really get what you pay for.

It will also depend on the zoom and distance. My 1.5-6x NcStar on my M14 is fine for CQB. I would never buy one of theirs for longer than 100 meters. The higher the zoom and longer the distance you need a high quality scope. My two HiLux scopes are very nice indeed, very clear and crisp at even 20x out to 800m. I have a 4-16x 30mm tube on my AIA M10 No4, and their M1200 6-24x Camputer on my Rem 700. Excellent quality for the price IMO.
