Hey folks, I've been looking around at getting my first hunting rifle and have decided to go .270. After looking at some rifle's I was shown the one mentioned above, it is on sale right now for 487.99. Now for that price it seems really tempting, I've handled it and a few others and it seems to be the sturdiest of the ones in that price range. Obviously I was looking at the entry level ones to begin with but this one is only 80 or so more dollars and just seems like a smart choice.

Could I get some of the groups opinion on this please short time line as the sale is over this weekend, I wasn't expecting to buy right now but I ran into some extra money and well... What better way to spend it :)

Thanks folks

Don't know about the "Krytek Typhon" thing but the Vanguard is a great action and is head and shoulders above any other rifle any where near that price range.........snap one up for sure.

Can't go wrong with a Vanguard, best rifle for your money in my opinion. I haven't shot an S2, but I have a couple of the old model ones, and they're great. Everything points to the S2 being better than the original too. I saw those on the wholesale sports site.to and was tempted, even though I already have 2 that don't get enough love.

The Typhon pattern is cool looking if you are into that sort of thing, but if you can find Highlander or Mandrake it might be more practical as camoflage.

Thanks for the quick feedback!!! Weatherdog your right about the mandrake/highlander I'm not sure they have that in stock, but it would be prefered for sure

Can someone confirm that the one for sale on wholesale sports in indeed the heavy barreled version listed here:

www.weatherby.com/products/rifles/wbyx-rifles/vanguard-kryptek-569.html

and not the lighter version listed here:

www.weatherby.com/products/rifles/wbyx-rifles/vanguard-kryptek.html

Thanks,
Cal.

Don't think so as the one at wholesale comes in 5 cal's, the heavy barrel one only comes in 2 cal's also the one on sale is only 7 1/2 lbs... the heavy is 8 1/4.

Okay guys, I bit the bullet for my first rifle. Got it in 223 :) Can anybody suggest me a decent budget scope/mount package for less than $300 for this rifle for use on the range?

I bought one yesterday in .223 and it is the heavy 22 inch barrel. The .308 and .223 are called "Threat Response" models, like a police model. It's not the same camouflage as in the current catalog, I believe it's last year's pattern that's why they are on sale. But it's definitely the heavy barrel. WSS website doesn't give very much information. You could call a store that has them in stock to confirm if you are ordering online.

Wholesale seems to have some sweet deals right now. Ugly stocks aside the S2 would be a heck of a buy. As other have mentiomed with the low Canadian $ prices will only be going up up up...

I would go US made Redfield and talley rings.

Should be enough cash left for a can to spray the stock with. ;) J/k.

I just bought a Vanguard Series II in .243. (With the Gryptonite Stock)

In a word, the rifle is DYNAMITE!!

The two stage trigger is absolutely superb.
Weatherby boasts it's a SUB-MOA gun with good quality ammo. This gun is sub-SUB MOA with el-cheapo ammo!!

And it's a Weatherby for a reasonable price.

Highly recommend this rifle.

I take a Vanguard Over any Axis, Steven 200, Rem budget line, even a 700.

In a pinch the short action rem 700 bases ( 2 pc ) will work just will over lap.

For $300, I'd bet one could find a nice VXII or VXIII if yer quick on the draw.
Bet even a WTB might rustle up something.

Speaking of which, Zeiss Conquest in the mail...........:dancingbanana:
