What a shotgun is supposed to do!

Shoot what ya got at what ya want. I have an old pump I use for trap, shot a PITA event with it. Do I want a nice O/U, you bet and I will have one ... one day .. but for now I use what I have. If all I had was a short little defender, that is what I would use for hunting and trap. I certainly wouldn't take anyone to task for not using something I deemed appropriate. And just where the hell is HNACHJ in all of this ?? Drops a crapper of a post and doesn't reply to anyone elses point of view ... maybe he just understands now ... Label him as #### disturber and ban him if he doesn' have the decency to post replies to a thread he started.
Henry's impressed with himself because he writes in a magazine and shoots FITASC. I guess he'd figure that would be enough to start making bold pronouncements about what shotgunning is and isn't. Pretty presumptuous from a middle-of-the-pack C Class shooter who isn't going to be sharing podium space with Digweed, Bidwell, or Cherry any time soon.
The clay target community in this country isn't that large and Henry and I have some mutual acquaintances. If you ask around about him one of the more polite phrases you'll hear is "legend in his own mind." It seems he's dedicated to proving the point here too.

Why stereotype? With so much diversity available to us today why should one restrict himself/herself. Bottomline, if it makes any person happy to move away from monotony via pursuing a variety of interests in the shooting sports - there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. The more we promote the stronger and bigger community of legal firearms owners we become.
If you think about it......the World wouldn't be at this stage of progress and development if we humans only sought to stick to what we started with at the begining of time

Some days I wonder what might have happened if that had been the reception I'd received on that day many years ago when I showed up at the local trap club with my 18.5" Remington 870 pump gun.Xman said:

Knowing I'd shoot better with a longer barrel I went out to get a longer barrel with tighter chokes, instead I found an 870 pump gun on sale for a little more than the price of a new barrel and bought it. I don't know what would have happened if I'd received the same reception as Xman. I'd have had a lot less fun but would have a lot more money.
It's a risky business to make fun of anyone's gun no matter what they are shooting. They might just kick your ass with that gun you think so poorly of. Smarter shooters also know there are two very good reasons to welcome the new guys. The first is that's how we keep the sport alive but more importantly, given the fickle nature of target shooters towards their guns, without the new guys we'd have no one to sell our old guns to.

Many of us, myself included would not be into any shooting sports if it wasn't for hand me downs, and discounted guns.
And for the record my Maverick 88 is the only gun I have bought new.

Secondly Grouseman, I like that 'ah sh....' picture!
Thirdly, I started as a kid shootin .22 rimfire at gophers.
I've got shotguns now. For clays and for birds n pests up close. (including BadGuys) I've got Centerfire rifles for stuff far away, and revolvers and semiauto handguns at the range for punchin paper.... and now I've got an AR15 comin. Someday I'm gonna build one of those fourty foot long pumpkin shooters. Why? Cuz they're ALL GUNS. And I love em ALL.
WE GOT ENOUGH ENEMIES OUT THERE... Do we really need more amongst us? Divide and conquer is a method that has been used SUCCESSFULLY against gunners for years. Respect your fellow gunnies. If you don't get it, time to open your eyes. Please. For YOUR shotguns sake.
Hang together lest we all hang separately.

I feel confident enough in my self-control and grip on reality that I'm not worried about any amount of target practice on silhouette targets causing me to suddenly shoot a human out of habit.

Greenhorse six's avatar reminds me of an incident in the army in basic where one of my course mates was doing about the same thing with a C1 A1 rifle at the range, fully loaded(the gun, not the guy). He caught a boatload of #### for it. I don't have enough nice guns to consider myself a gun snob. Although they're nice enough, I think. I am lucky to have only met the nicest of people during my trips to the range.
