What is the coolest feature about the SKS

I always thought the bayonet was cool, not many rifles have permanently attached ones. Now my left arm hates it.
But whats not to love!

for me almost every aspect of the sks has a cool feature

reliability is very cool
cheap ammo is very cool
price of rifle is very cool
the look and design of the gun is very cool
disassembly reassemble is very cool
jamming the bayo in the ground to clean the gun is very cool

my favourite feature of all this would be the price of the ammo, for about the price of shooting 22 mag its a total steal.

Canadian Freedom Rifle IMHO.
Everyone pretty much has one, semi auto and plenty of surplus M43 still kicking around.

We talk about the good old days when you could buy a k98 or LE for 40$, but the truth is they aren't any more expensive today. 40$ was ten tanks of fuel in your car, and I can buy an SKS for the cost of two tanks, or a k98 for the cost of 5 tanks. Thats a loose comparison, but the inflation stats bear that out.

Oh, forgot to answer the question, best thing about the SKS is the quality for the cost. VERY impressive machining, and just a gorgeous gun. I love them.

For me, I think the coolest feature is how the cleaning kit container becomes the handle for your cleaning rod. Seems silly but I find it interesting how it was designed to be completely taken care of in the field.

The reliability and simplicity of a rifle that almost cannot fail. It ain't no sniper or sharpshooter, but if it has a bullet in the pipe, it will always go bang.

When Kalashnikov died and his body lay in state, the guards around him carried SKSs. True story. I'm Sure some where there are parade grade aks out there, but not around the man himself as he waited for burial. That says a lot right there. The Sks is awesome.
