I was curious about that too, I noticed that a blued Ruger GP100 with a 4.2" barrel can be had for $378.00 in the US or $675.00 in Canada.
When the government makes it more complicated and onerous to import, sell and buy firearms, and combined with a small market you get higher prices.
There are many threads about this - most gun dealers probably make 5% to 10% if they are lucky and that involves a lot of work. A labour of love I think.
5-10%! are you kidding? Labour of love?! Holy s@*t man wake up! You think any of these guys would stay in business on 5-10% markups? Some brands more - some less but 20-30% is where its at. I've seen a couple of Popular retailers costs on firearms and believe me they do well.
And how much do you think they take home then?

my local shop made 40$ on the their first Remington 597. 40 bucks thats it that was there mark up.
So their profit was 20% on a $200 rifle...
a $200 rifle? is that american wholesale prices? i was there when the cut the only box open, they had only 1 and it was 475$ i think. something close to that. there a small business but there the only one around and they know it.
So they didn't make $40....they made $275 HAHAHAHA.
A 597 is $190 @ Epps.
