What was your first Milsurp?

Bought a No.5 when I was 15, followed by a SMLE. Type 14 Nambu at 18, a Mk. III Sten the year after. $25, $10, $25 and $35, respectively.

My first milsurp was and is a Model 71 Mauser handed down to me from my Dad. The first milsurp I bought with my own money was a Mosin Nagant 91/30. A family friend and myself each bought one from SIR Mailorder along with a wack of 7.62X54R surplus ammo that was part of the deal. The rifles were 19.99 each I think, wouldn't have been much more if they were and the ammo came in 15 round triangular shaped boxes in stripper clips for 1.49 a box. I sold off a bunch of my rifles some years ago including this one and I've regretted it ever since, nostalgia I guess.

Garand.

Springfield Armory, 1942 dated receiver, but I think the barrel was 1947......so I'm not totally sure what's going on with it.

Mine was a sporter 303 lithgow. I thought about buying a axis, but went for the old 303 and I've never looked back.
My second was a m96 swede and that really got the ball rolling.
The only hunting rifle i own is my winchester 94 in 32 spcl.

M38 Swede from LeBaron's in early 80's. Cost around 75 bucks. Ammo was hard to find at that time so reloading was the way to go. Found 3 boxes of Norma brass most of which I still have. Some have been reloaded more than 20 times.Turkey shoots were very popular back then and my old mauser did well against a lot of hunters deer rifles. Still have her and she shoots as well as ever.

Stgw57.

Once I moved to the Yukon, I bought a nice M1 Garand for 300 bucks. I sold it to another Swiss guy a few years later for same.

A friends uncle sold me his M96/38 swedish mauser for 175 bucks years back. Was my first owned firearm too.

Taken the weekend I got it.

Dad's Kar98. Gustloff 1942 all matching, with sling, muzzle cap and some ammo. My uncle brought it back from WWII.
The first I bought myself? I had so many I can't really remember. The late 80's to 90's stuff was plentiful and inexpensive.
I had many 96 Swedes, 98's, Argentine, Peruvian, Turkish, Portuguese, and other Mausers, #4's, #5's (never a #1 though)
P-14's, a 1903 Springfield, a U.S. Krag, an M42b, AK's, FAL's 1910 Brownings, an Inglis Browning Hi Power, a couple S&W Mod 10's (Police surplus) and on and on, but I don't remember the first one I bought myself...

The first milsurp I bought was the good ol' SKS.

The first milsurp I actually used was my dad's (now mine) Lee-Enfield No4 Mk1 Savage-made sporter (took my first deer with it).

Tsarist 91 Dragoon re barreled and restocked by VTK in 41. Cost me $55.00 in 1985.Two weeks later bought a Tikka M-27 for a parts gun for $45.00. It's a good thing that some of us have wives that are gunnutz too, cause they just seem to multiply. The guns I mean, wives are just too expensive.

My first was a Lee Enfield that I paid $15 bucks for. It was drilled and tapped for a Leather Wood scope mount when I got it but I ended up with a Weaver mount. I used it for a while then went to something better as the top rifle shot in Alberta in the 70's could not make it group less then the whole target when I took it to Rosebud. Sold it for $150 couple of years ago. My next was a P17 that does shoot well with just the battle peep site let alone the fine peep sight and it's never been changed from the original.
