What's the best semi-auto rimfire regardless of cost?

I almost feel like buying a Buckmark that Wrong Way is raving about just to see if it's really that much better than my stock 10/22RR.

From the people I've talked to they are good shooters, but there's good and bad in every breed, best source of info on them is here:http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1184353
Personally for me, they look like a pistol modded to be a rifle (which they are) and for that reason they don't suit me, I prefer something with a little more traditional lines and styling.

But, there are many very good semi-auto's out there (that'll out shoot a stock ruger), depending on your frame you may want a full size rifle, or compact one. It's really a matter of personal taste. I, like REG, have collected quite a few semi's over the years, bought them shot them and sold quite a few of them. Presently, these are the one's I like most:

An atom is a close to a civic as your 10/22 is to a match-grade target rifle, they both fire the same round and thats about it. If your going to call a 10/22the "best" don't make it about quality or accuracy. Be truthful and say it's the best because it's what you own and like to shoot.

Considering a completely stock CZ511 and TC sporter are in the superstock .25" club on rimfirecentral, i'd say look at those.

No. No. No. The 10/22 receiver on a 10/22 custom = the honda civic engine in the Ariel Atom. The round would be more like the gas...:D

Back on topic, I don't know how all this accuracy crap got started...the OP is asking specifically about a woods rifle. Unless you are bringing a benchrest out to the boreal, I highly doubt one hole accuracy is going to happen.

A woods rifle needs to be light, compact, fast-pointing and reasonably accurate......and ideally won't run 2K so you arent afraid to actually carry it.

I believe for the price of the buckmark you could custom a 10/22 and be just as light and accurate, with 25 rd mags to boot.

I'd say nine's new 10/22 config would give it a run for the money. But if you don't like that version than there are many more styles and types to choose from. And that's is why the 10/22 is king.:bigHug:

1.: No, it won't. I KNOW my rifle shoots better than that :D

2. Yawn....EVERYONE has a 10/22...it's like the white bread of rimfires...did I mention "yawn" :p

Now THIS: Points better, weighs less, looks cooler, functions better and shoots straighter....and better yet: I didn't have to spend an extra 3-500 bucks to make it that way :dancingbanana:

And a question:

So let me get this straight...you buy a 10/22, then standard procedure is to replace the Barrel (with a non-ruger replacement) , stock (with a non-ruger replacement), trigger group (with a non-ruger replacement) , mag(with a non-ruger replacement) , extactor (with a non-ruger replacement), ejector(with a non-ruger replacement) , sights (with a non-ruger replacement) .....so...at what point do you stop calling it a ruger 10/22? cause the way I see it, it's 95% something else.

Which lkeads me to the next question...'cause everybody replaces all of these parts, does that mean that everything except the reciever on a 10/22 sucks?

Just curious.....'cause there is nothing on my BMR that I would change as it is...it's pretty much perfect out of the box.

The only thing on mine is a trigger job. Everything else is stock. I like it, and it's accurate with decent ammo. No complaints at all with my Target Ruger 10/22. I actually prefer the stock 10 round mags over the aftermarket.

Wrong way. That's a nice pistol you have there :p.
Actually with the wood it doesn't look too bad. But definately not my style. An interesting idea that's for sure. At $600 it's fairly expensive. I paid just over $500 for my stainless Ruger target model.

Looking for the best quality .22 semi-automatic to have fun with in the woods. I'm willing to pay for the best.

Stainless 10/22 with synthetic stock and a trigger job. Throw on a decent scope and that's all you need for woods fun.

I changed out the stock and barrel on mine just because I could

Considering all I use it for now is fun in the woods/hunting it would have been fine the way I bought it (except for trigger work). It was actually please with the way it shot out of the box.

When I was a kid my dad had a mint Mossberg 22lr which I believe now was a model 152K (with the folding front stock). It was a great little gun, deadly on the blackbirds that frequently raided my parents garden!!! Unfortunately my dad sold the gun when they moved a few years back and I never got a chance to recover it :(

I have a nice Savage 17hmr and a Lakefield 64b that satisfy my plinking needs today ... but I'd trade both of them up for a chance to get my hands on my dad's old Mossberg!!

ruger 10/22 its the way to go they are so many option to bullt that gun ,,
and you can find parts and evrything you need in canada,,,

Fun in the woods?

No question: Browning Buckmark Sporter Carbine wearing a Bushnell XLP holosight. (Also happens to be my go-to rifle for plinking expeditions)

Freaky accurate right out of the box, handles and shoulders like no other, looks that turn heads wherever it goes....you really can't go wrong.

Now to sit back and wait for the 10/22 lemmings to show up and try to convince you otherwise.....;)

Do you Wrong Way or anyone else here know where I can get one here in Canada with the holosight?

I called Wholesale Sports but they don't have any in stock and they don't carry the holosight.

The Buckmark barrel at 18" is also shorter (faster) than most other .22 semis. The magazines are interchangeable with the Buckmark pistols - no surprise there suppose but still a nice feature. Reliable will likely bring them in if not have them, bought Buckmark pistols there and they carry the other Browning rim & center fires.

Well, for out in the woods the 10/22 is the enfield of rimfires (in my opinion). It might not be the prettiest or most accurate, but it will always shoot, and shoot pretty dang well. I guess a guy just needs to define what 'best' you are will to pay for, and go from there.
