My favourite caliber is 30-30 for deer. More challenge and nostalgic as i hunt with a 1907 Winchester rifle. They do not run far, most are DRT.

Depends on where I am hunting, have successfully used 308, 270 Win, 270 Wby, 22-250, 243 Win, 7x57, 7 Rem Mag, 32 Rem, 45-70, 348 Win, 30-30, 300 savage, all worked great. Thinking 25-35 for the bush work and 280 rem for open spaces this year but that could change. Probably my favourite is my Grad present of 81 a Winchester Fwt XTR 270 has taken a lot of game and still feels like "my" rifle, in my mind the 270 is perfectly suited to the big bodied mulies and whitetails in our area and varied hunting conditions.

Ill be using a .44 mag in a lever this year. And for the controlled hunt, either a 12 gauge, a .50 cal flinter, or perhaps a .58 smoothbore percussion.

Remington 7600 in 30-06 with 180 grain powermax, only gun and shells I use for any big game I hunt...It's the meat seaker, always see and kill game when I carry it. Used a 308 pump for one season and didn't see a damn thing! Not even a blue jay! Bought the meat seaker back, first time out shot a bear and seen 4 deer...That gun has the luck that no other I've ever used had!

This. Last year was 8mm-06, the year before .45-70, this year will be .308 or 6.5x55, a few years back it was .43 Mauser. Like a golfer I need choices and a selection...

Mine this year will be a 1949 husqvarna .270. Beautiful gun, only about 3 boxes of shells ever down it's pipe. Then for the short range/open sights it'll be the slightly newer 1955 '94 30/30. I'd love to be the third generation in our family to take a deer with that one!

It's funny, most of my hunting rifles are more than twice my age lol.

This year will be the first deer season ever that i will not be taking my Lee-Enfield .303 out hunting. I shall be taking my .25-06 Savage Axis XP out this year... It was quite a toss up this year between the Savage, the Mosin-Nagant and the SKS.
