Interesting, could be just an unlucky guy to get 2 dude in a row. As the old saying goes, nothing is built like it used to be.
Bartok, you said "Both the Leupold and the Holosun have top-loading batteries with no need for sight removal or re-zeroing"
But all my 507c's have bottom loading batteries that need the red dot to come off the slide for battery replacement!?!?!
Which in hind sight shouldn't be an issue with the 507c as the batteries last 10 years on setting # 6 brightness

Is there someone that you would recommend sending a slide to for machining?
I am surprised the Burris 111 is considered a hobby sight. I have friends in the States that have run them on their steel guns for years. One has over 10K on three different 9MM guns with nary a hiccup. There is a lot of advertising on some of the higher priced models of essentially the same technology. For most, IDPA/IPSC fellows shooting 5K - 10K rounds per year the Vortex Viper/Venom and Burris 111's are more than adequate. They don't have quite the panache of the higher end sights though.
Not sure why one would put an Optic on a home defense gun unless you envision more than my imagination can contrive.

Mark I can't imagine using my sights at any distance I would see myself involved with in a home invasion. Under 15 feet I would be point shooting at best. Any realistic situation would be over quick, I can't imagine an extended gun fight like you see on TV. That's for the movies
My neighbour lost his wife to a home invader. She bled out from a knife wound and his involvement took place in less than 3 feet. You need to practice more if you can't hit a torso at five yards with out using your sights - iron or optic.. I suspect you can with both.
I have no problem using iron sights and shooting accurately focusing on the front sight. Most people don't. We are talking minute of man not a 4" plate at 25 yards.
I can't imagine a need to worry about a home invasion where I live but it could happen and I take the necessary precautions.

You'd be surprise at how easy it is to miss at close distances.
Nope, easy done. SO'd a shooter two years ago who missed an IDPA target from no more than arms length with two rounds. He would have missed if he had a telescope on his pistol. He did manage to get all the targets out to 10 yards. Sometimes gun God says "nope not today".
I had a Master shooter argue a single hole was indeed a double on a target he shot at from no more than three feet. He simply missed the target and his ego would not let it go.
I also have a friend in Chilliwack who served with the South African Army when they had a bit of a dust up in S.W. Africa. He was using a FN Hi-Power and admitted to me after the fire fight he could not remember using his sights once on his pistol while engaging in close quarters. Strange things happen when events are for real.
I am not inclined to have to search for a "Dot" when it really counts. Others may and that is OK too.
