Wholesale Sports and rifles..your own..

Grande Prairie...

I'm not real familiar with wholesale Sports...this year was my first time in one I think..

Anyhow, I have been in the Grande Prairie one a few times and today I wanted to try some gear on a rifle...mainly a bipod and scope..

I go in, no bolt in the gun, trigger lock on and holding it muzzle down trigger up...

Well holy s**t...

Someone started yelling "wait !!!! wait!!!!" and then someone else started calling for a manager...

So I go over to the people yelling and put the rifle on the counter. Then the hunting dept manager comes down and I explain I am looking for a scope, mounts possibly a bipod. He said," well you can put your gun back in your truck, (do I drive a truck ?) and we can get those things.

I said I wanted to actually try the stuff on the gun...make sure it was what I want...

ohhhhhh he says.. so he carries my gun.

Instead of putting it on the counter in a mount or something, we go up and down the aisles getting the stuff and try putting it on the gun in the middle of the aisles on the floor.

Now if that guy is a member here, I will saythat he was super helpful and did a good job,..but for a hunting and shooting store, I was disappointed with the overall process.

ha ha, dam near same thing happened to me in nanaimo only mine was cased even! i walked in and threw the case on the counter in the hunting dept, opened it up and it was like someone yelled BOMB or something... gun had no bolt and a cable lock through the action and im surprised nobody called the cops. not exactly the kind of response you'd expect in a place that sells guns is it???

I don't know if the policy has changed or WTF the problem is. I worked in the Lethbridge store:redface:a few years ago. A regular lady came in with her 303, uncased, fitted it with a sling, paid for it and wandered around the store with it slung on her shoulder for a while and nobody said squat. Maybe something to do with the UFA nutbars that are ruining the place??

Hahahaha. Whenever I go to Reliable Gun for smith work or scope mounts I always walk down Fraser street with my rifle slung, bolt in, no lock. Perfectly legal. I always try to park a block or two away.

That is why I like my local gun store, TNT Gunworks, I am sure I could walk in with any firearm and nobody there would even flinch, they sell guns for crap sakes, they expect some to come in the door from time to time.

Wholesale Sports is coming to Regina... I don't think it will be the type of place I will be likely to frequent.

I don't know what wholesale sports' problem is. I took my 300 Wby. Mag.(in a case) into the Edmonton store once to get it fitted with bases, rings and a scope. I had the bolt removed and a bright yellow cable lock running through the bolt passage and out the ejection port. After waiting 15 min for service at the firearm counter even though I was the only person there, they acted like I was trying to rob the store. I wasn't even touching the rifle, and the guy behind the counter backed up quickly and yelled for the manager. The manager came and told me I shouldn't have brought the rifle to the store, and that I should have just bought the items and took them home to mount them. I told him," Fine, I'll take my business to a gun shop that actually cares about helping the customer." I have not gone back to wholesale sports since, and I will never go back there. I know some people have good experiences there, but I found the people at the Edmonton store, to be completely stuck up and ignorant. Just my two cents. Thanks for reading.

Never a problem in Grande Prairie for me. I don't carry my rifle in uncased though...went in two weeks ago for rings, had the rifle in the case, bolt in but trigger lock on. Walked in and went to customer service to check in just like the sign on the door says to. They called someone from the hunting dept, he took me and rifle to the back, and we fitted rings, found Butler Creek caps for my scope, ammo....and away I went. Certainly no excitement or angst from anyone. Very helpful and knowledgable staff (for the most part). Prices are fair to good.

Staff is anything but knowlegable from my experiences with rifles and shooting equipment...

Where did they put your gun while you tried the the rings,..was it in a rest somewhere???

As i said, we did my stuff on the floor of the aisle..

Common sense?

Wholesale is an outdoor store that sells guns and hunting stuff. Its not a gun store per sey.

Even when I take a gun into a dedicated gun store, I walk in empty handed and state my intentions. Get the o.k. or follow told instructions and do what has to be done. Plus its in a case.

Very rarely do the guys get to go in without wives and kids it seems. Mothers take their kids back there to look at the mounts on the wall.

Its alos not a good idea to walk into a bank wearing all camo, either.

And the hunting manager is a female. ;)
