Why all the hate with 6.5 Creedmoor

Found some! Gonna send these sometime next week and see how they shoot.

Cool! Was this local in Winnipeg (I see were in the same city)? I got some online awhile ago but still have to setup my scope, so haven’t tried it (or any of my 6.5 lol) out.

Nothing wrong with the 6.5 Creedmor but it doesn't do ANYTHING that the 6.5x55 Swedish does and it has been around for over 120 years. An exercise in marketing but I guess you could say that about most new cartridges introduced in the last 50 years. We all (including me) like to have something different and no fault in that.

I very much agree with this sentiment.
It's the gun industry version of planned obsolescence. An excuse to convince as many people as possible to go buy something new.

Yes, Cabela's actually had some 6.5 ammo on the shelves today! Not much, but there was a half dozen boxes left after I grabbed one.

Low BC and speed. The Creedmoor is having an identity crisis.

In all fairness I've been shooting Federal Gold Medal Match with 130 grain Bergers and Hornady Superformance with 129gr SSTs for target and hunting, these were more of a novelty. That said, I can't help but think the high SD and bonded core coupled with a lower muzzle velocity would work well for baited bears.

I have one Bergara in 6.5 creed, it's the one I use if I want to do sub MOA at distance.
I have 5 rifles in .308, they all shoot great and I don't worry about wear and tear on the barrels. I've loved the .308 for years and years, not a whole lot it can't do.

For me, I just liked the novelty of the "new" round, and the fact that it worked well for me. I like to find neat calibers to reload. For me 6.5 is a "win".
I haven't seen a lot of hate or guys with onesies on with them, but I do get why people wouldn't see the need for it when there are LOTS of existing rounds out there. Hell 7.62x54 is a hell of a round out of the right barrel.

I hit a small rock with the Bergara at ONE MILE last year. Now if you subtract the 27 practice shots, that thing is a nail driver ;)

Good to know, I was in a week or so ago and they only had the $90 Sako with 120gr mono copper alloy bullet, and the Hornady outfitter with the nickel plated cases and similar CX bullets… got some of the Hornady with a gift card and a coupon.

It's a smart design. Any I've had have been easy to load for. It seems to have the 'inherent accuracy' much like a 308. For target shooting, it's an excellent cartridge. For hunting, it's a great deer and sheep cartridge and if you have the right bullet and shoot within reasonable distances, it's a doable elk and moose round. I've dropped and elk DRT with a 260 handload 130gr tsx. The 260 and 65CM are really close in ballistics so don't see why the CM wouldn't do it. I have seen a few moose (on internet anyway) dumped with it and Scandinavians have been shooting moose with the 65swede at original loadings for decades. As with all hunting, knowing your limitations, the cartridge's capabilities and placing an effective shot is key.

National course is where the Creedmoor got its start, and a 6.5 will still win over a 6mm in F/O all things being equal.
There are still a lot of shooters using the 6.5 Creedmoor in PR C/ PRS from what I have been told.
The truth is ,the people winning are winning because they are good shooters, it wouldn't matter what they were shooting .

Guys who hate the 6.5 Creedmoor do so because they can't afford to buy a new rifle.

No, not the case for many; I bought a new 6.5 x 55; could have paid less and got a nice (used, as there are lots of them out there) Creedmoor, but I wanted what I want.

True story, I went to the club one day and there was a guy with a new Creed and not having much luck even printing on paper. I helped him out getting him on paper. I jokingly aske him why the Creed instead of the Swede and he told me he had one and could not get on paper with it either (Iron sights only); I asked if he wanted to sell it as I was willing to take a chance on it, and he gave me a good deal on a surplus M38 with cut stock. I picked up some dies, bullets and brass, and made up some loads, and not sure why, they all went on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, first try.

Lots buy the 6.5 creed based on hype, and look for it to fix their accuracy issues, when the issues are not always the tool, but often are the operator.

I reload 6.5 x 55; I have lots of components, and I just went to the range today, and fired about 75 of them out of an old 1900 Obendorf with iron sights, and 64 year old eyes, and printing 2.5 - 3" groups from a bench rest at 100 yards. These were fairly hot loads pushing 158 grain bullets.

Hard to beat that!!

So why would I pick the Mauser if buying a 6.5 today?
