actually, am not sure why expecting to pay the price marked on the items is setting my expectations too high. also, perhaps you could tell me how my expectations are too high when i'm quoted a price over the phone and then drive 45 minutes only to find out the phone price is a mistake because it's too low.

perhaps this is how it's done in ontario, but here in alberta, a bit more honesty/integrity is generally expected. as other posters have mentioned, we do believe/expect some customer service out west.
Customer Service is a hit and miss sport these days. You were expecting honesty/integrity from a place that has a reputation for NOT delivering. Why are you so surprised?

I used to do that - get PO'ed and take my business elsewhere because I thought I deserved more service/respect than I was getting. Until I ran out of options and ended up back where I started. Reasonable expectations tempered with good negotiating usually results in a satisfactory conclusion in my experience.

Epps :) Le Store

yea know yer all just plain mean, you should take such examples of companies like wholesale sports to heart and follow there lead when it comes to there employees, for you to can sponcer a retard for less than a cup of coffee a day, I seen it on TV !

oh and yea they cost me a shoot cuzz they lost my order and then said 3 days later someone forgot to ship it out :onCrack: :slap:

I usually shop at the Calgary store because I have a friend that works there. I avoid going there when he's on days off. Yeah, there are dip####s there, on both sides of the counter mind you. I wouldn't be pissed off at the sales people personally, remember they have a boss and some of those guys know they have a ####ty job. For the first time ever, I stopped at the Edmonton branch....the A&W rootbear works there, selling guns, and he's got attitude. :D

they should of honored the price but since they are a big box store they dont give a #### about you returning to buy more stuff, because they know if you dont buy it at that low price, somebody else will

Ive dealt with WSS many times, all mail order, and I cant think of a problem with an order that I have had. Trying to get ahold of them on the phone is pointless at times, which is aggravating. The only time ive stepped foot in a WSS store was in Edmonton a couple months ago and the customer service I saw was indeed lacking. P&D on the other had was excellent and if I lived in Edmonton, I sure know where I would be spending my money

I've never heard of such a law but if there was one it would be an ass. Anyone could go into any store and switch price tags on an item and/or the price tag on the shelf and then demand to pay the lower price. :slap: That'd be pretty cool getting a $50 headlamp for the price of a set of batteries right beside it. :onCrack:

The law refers to any store that uses bar codes only, with the price just listed on the shelf, not the item. WSS isn't7 worth the trouble, the only thing I ever buy there is Lee products because P&D doesnt sell them.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again... Stores in Canada could LEARN a lot from our USA neighbors. Anyone who has been in any USA sporting goods stores will tell you that your treated as #1 , which is a nice feeling when your about to lay down some serious hard earned cash. With Cabela's soon coming to Que. and Bass Pro already in Ont.I won't be shedding any tears to the little guys who have been treating customers like crap when they loose sales big time. People will appreciate being treated with respect and will spend their money there. For the very few small stores already treating their customers with respect, well they will Always bring in the customers regardless. Seems many business owners forget they NEED us more than WE need THEM.
As for having a difference in price at the cash...here in Que it is LAW that it not happen, and if the price is less than $10 the customers gets it free, and if its over $10 the customer gets $10 off the price. So if that laws applies out your way as well, then wholesale is commiting a crime.

I've had a few guys ask why this thread is still running and I'm kinda iffy on which way to turn on this thread.

On one hand I'd like to see it calm down a little bit more and debate the situation a bit more cause it's a good thread in a way that shows what we as sportsmen are looking for in a gun shop and that customer appreciation means to us. I'm thinking that if I leave it run that more and more of the dealers will have a look and have a talk with their employee's and I hope that they'll fine tune the things that we're looking for these days.

Just because you own a gunshop doesn't mean that you have the run on Canada, it still means that you are a business and we as sportsmen are your livelyhood. It's all about service these days, if we don't like yours we have the internet and can move on to someone that wants our business a bit more.

Most of the businesses we as CGN members use on this site are all well mannered and ready to break their backs for us, including the big ones as well. Just because one member has a bad experience doesn't mean the next one will. it's meerly a personal opinion and as a CGN member we have the right to state our thoughts on it, just don't take it to far.

Hi todd,

could you leave the thread running for another 24 hours as i'd like to make a hard copy of this thread and send it to the local manager of the edmonton wss as well as the larger provincial manager to let them know what the general public opinion is with regards to how well their service is or isn't being received. you're correct about the cgn supporting businesses being really good- i've been dealing with brian at drop zone ever since he was on the second story of white avenue and 96 street over 20 years ago and have found him to be great to deal with, as have been many other supporting cgn businesses. have also dealt with trade-ex and they were outstanding. in fact, i posted on cgn about their great service

however, wss isn't a supporting business and from the numerous comments posted on this thread, the prevailing opinion of their service amongst many cgn seems to universally less than well received. so, their crappy service has impacted upon than one cgn.

who knows, if this thread runs a bit longer and the wss managers get their act (and store) together after reading the hard copy i want to send them, we may be doing many firearms owners in edmonton a great service. as i'm certain all gun owners in canada realize, thoughts without constructive action is usless. THANKS!!

If was the owner of such a store, there would also be a dress code and personal hygiene standards. I don't mean that they should all wear the same thing and look like little clones. But man, they spend a lot of money on interior decor only to have people that look like they slept in the parking lot behind the counter. Yeah....you know who you are

well I've never been to wholesale sports so I'm not sure how it rates to MY store but...

how many items are in store? if its the size of lebarons you are looking at 45-5000 items in store.

you CAN NOT expect them to have every price marked correctly on every item. It just isn't practical!

Now saying that, the manager probably should have been a little better in discussing it with you.

But a store cant lose money on every item that is marked incorrectly because its just not good business practice.

Did he show you the cost of the item? At my store if there is a dispute I show them the cost of the item and give an explanation why they can't purchase it for the price it was ticketed at.

Boo ####ing hoo if they dont want it, frankly. They'll be someone comming in within the next day or so that will pay full purchase price for it.

I have heard from an other guy, who had phoned and inquired about a rifle was told a price, told them to hold it he would be down later in the day to pick it up. When he got there that afternoon the price went up by $150.00 and they would NOT honor the orginal phone quote:mad:

h ttp://w ww.bbb.org/

Write a letter, as far as I know they HAVE to honor the marked price, even if it is a mistake.

The BBB can and will follow up on any consumer complaints.!!!

yep went to wholesale sports last week in Edmonton for a few items, all I got is NO NO NO we dont have it. I know they have some of the best prices but if you don;t have the goods IT DON"T MEAN SQUAT.This is the "big" time bussiness name in Canada with no product, this has happened meny time before. no more ! Go to Bashaw Sports and YEP Yep and Yep we have it. I keep getting from wholesale that it's getting so hard to get it over the border etc etc etc. But the smaller names seem to have it????? Sorry Wholesale but no more! You suck! GET THE PRODUCT IN YOUR STORES!

Boys got to Russell sports in Calgary. Talk about customer service. I went in there with measurments for my friends scope to get flip up covers for it .the guy behind the counter helped me through 3 long distance calls to my friend in Wainwright and even brought out his own micrometer to measure the flipups. Ended up with the exact ones I needed and did I mention the sale was only $20?!? This guy spent over 30 minutes ensuring that I got the right item. Now that is customer service!! He called me sir even though he obviously outaged me. When I told him I work for a living not to call me sir he laughed and said " I like you Army guys" He personally escorted me to the checkout and made sure that I got his employee discount. Thanks again Russell sports I wish I could remember the fellows name as I would ask for him again whenI go there!!!
