Dude, your own article from texas pointed out that aerial gunning is more effective than trapping.

I think what you're done with, Suther, is done your desperate attempt to prove that you're smarter than the rest of us.

You take a common sense notion - that if we kill a whole bunch of something, there will be less of them - and then try to explain to the rest of us dummies how the experts you've read have explained how that's not actually true, and how killing a bunch of something will actually result in more of them!

I would say i am laughing my ####ing ass off, but i'm more polite than that.

I will say that you may have had more success before the pandemic. I remember before the pandemic arguing with someone else locally about fluoride in the town drinking water. There was a vote coming on it, and this other person had swallowed a bunch of internet gobblygook telling him fluoride was bad. I quoted our local chief medical officer of health with total authority, explaining what the expert had said. I really trusted that guy's expert authority.

Then the pandemic came, and i watched that same expert tell me that i couldn't go back country camping in a canoe by myself, because covid. Or even better, that same chief officer closed the local snowmobile trails, because covid, but the ski trails were allowed to stay open - because covid doesn't infect skiers like it does snow mobilers!
So, now when experts try to tell me things that violate common sense, i pause for a moment and see what i really think about that.

I'd suggest you do the same.
 
Aerial gunning is only effective when densities are high and cover is sparse, which doesn't apply to Ontario. Try reading the whole sentence next time.

Or don't. Whatever. I said I was done, so I'm gonna leave this discussion.
 
From what I've seen and read, the hunters who are doing more harm than good down in Texas are the casual guys who go out with a bolt action and get maybe one or two, while scaring the rest into being human wary. I follow a fella online who hunts with his buddy, gets hired by farmers. They go at night with really expensive night vision, 7.62x39 AR's with suppressors, lasers, spare no expense. They hit the sounders rolling hard on a side by side and are both shooting like mad from each side. The driver is a magician to be running the wheel and spanking hogs. They will take anywhere from 10 to 40+ animals each night they go out. The odd time will be rocking a FA of some sort. I am not prone to jealousy, but their kit has me coveting. The numbers they pull down do have an effect on the population, and their services seem to be in high demand.

Only in this case...yeah massive gear envy too, not gonna lie hahaha.

Think I've seen those guys do a 200 pig pass?

Well, here's one for you, and maybe you just haven't left the fraser valley long enough to know this, but southern -central ontario - where all the farm land is and the boars would first land - is in fact quite open and has vast spaces with little tree cover...

^ Yes, the mice are dropping dead - it's so cold.

No problem for boar though, they survive Siberia if a human hunter or tiger won't get it.

Hard to imagine that they live in Southern Europes temperatures at 40+ celsius.

One might think they would wander to cooler climate !

Yes, totally how science works. We're completely not measuring consistent changes having impacts on wildlife in the field right now because of mice. Or something.

It was posted in jest. Lots of things are more nuanced than people want to admit.

Compensatory reproductive (behaviour +, -) is an observable thing. It’s been shown in multiple studies.

generalizations don’t account for much. What’s the magic kill/removal numbers to get the desired outcome/what even is the desired outcome idk. If they can f up salmon, cod, moose, bears what hope do people arguing on a forum have.

Why would the pigs bearkilr observed behave the same (fecundity and fertility) as wild pigs in southern Ontario, the prairies, europe southern US (getting blasted by helicopters) wherever.

The subject on hand is about wild boar in Ontario. Feel free to start another thread about the forest industry and present your "studies" there.

Why would a pure bread German shepherd coming from Austria have different instincts and breeding behaviour in Canada ?
 
I've hunted Wild Boar in western PA with the in-laws on a friend of theirs farm many years ago before the no-hunting controversy actually took hold in Pennsylvania and New York. It was a great hunt. We stayed for a weekend and bagged a couple of small Boars that ended up on the BBQ at a family reunion in western NY later that summer. They were damn good eatin'. The hunt was fairly subdued a lot like still hunting deer. This seems to be on a whole different level in Europe. I'll just leave this here for comment.

I posted the thesis/studies to show compensatory behaviours in pigs. You don’t have to buy into “climate change” to get something useful out of what I posted.
