X95, not all that great.

Fixed it for you!

Well I would not be so harsh, for people who are particular about AR mag release the x95 is an improvement. And the position of the charging handle is sound.
And I don't mind the rectangular look of the x95 stock, looks more streamlined.

They're really not, there are a number of observable differences in the barrel/gas block assembly and contact points. How much these would affect accuracy, I couldn't say. But I think they potentially could.

Indeed, so lets start by free floating the barrel and see where we get. Worst case scenario, we can always plug our old Tar-21 barrels in and be happy. Lol

I went with a meprolight RDS, but yesterday removed and put on a magnified optic and even with the 53 gr hornaby it was all over the map. Shoot three nice tight then two unexplainable flyers.....Just odd for a military grade assault rifle.
I am curious if anyone else experienced the pronounced gouging of the bullets.

a tight group of 2-3 shots and then a few flyers seems to be pretty standard for the X95. I'd say your doing your part and shooting it accurately. It's just going to come down to the pencil barrel which cannot provide consistent accuracy.

With the flyers how big does it make the grouping? Is it still good enough to give it a try as a varmint rifle and see how it preforms in the real world? The easy maneuverability of the X95 might win you over even though it lacks a bit in the accuracy department. Ergonomics and the short overall length is a big reason why lots of us own Tavors/X95's. Not so much for the accuracy.

Ok x95 not that great of a rifle.
Attempted 25 yard zero with it to get sight roughly on. Average group size was an 1 1/2. Some were larger none smaller. Didn't bother pushing out to distance it does not like 55 gr hand loads.
Further research showed it had a preference for heavier ammunition. So jump in batmobile and go in town grab a few different boxes. 62 gr Abit tighter but not much.
53 gr hornaby seems to be the magic load it likes.
Push it out to a hundred group size is all over the place. With unexplainable flyers, the hornaby would get three under an inch and two outside of two inches blowing group out everything else was anywhere from three to six inches.
Was not expecting a tack driver but was expecting some thing that you could consitently shoot a regular group with.
Either this rifle needs a long break in or there is something seriously wrong with rifle.
I am just posting this because I wish some one would have made mention of this prior to my buying one. I would have went a different way with my purchase.

LOL. Don't say I didn't tell you.
I have no dog in this fight and I don't work for a gun company or a retailer.
I speak my mind and call it how I see it.
I'm a reasonably accomplished shooter who is realistic with my performance and the performance of the guns I use.

The Tavor IMHO is 5-6 moa average with some better or worse (I'm referring to the mechanical accuracy of the rifle itself)
I think guys claiming 2 moa consistent accuracy are dreaming in technicolour.

I have yet to shoot one but they seem very expensive for what they are.

Yes you were right....

I just got in from the range, with an aimpoint h1 with 2moa dot I was getting a consistant 4-7" group at 100M. I'm very happy with that considering I am not precise with a dot at that range anyways.

Where it got interesting.. I put my OSX4 on to see what kind of difference some magnification would make.
I did not let the barrel cool between shots or even take ample time squeezing the trigger. I shot 2 groups that were just under 2"
The other 3 groups were not much bigger likely in the 3" range.. But I would say that 1 or 2 flyers out of 5 shots is pretty good for me as i don't consider myself a precision shooter.

I was using PMC ammunition if anyone is curious.

Thanks for sharing, it's all about enjoying your toys.

I love the tavor, but really it's selling feature is it's compact size, reliability, and really, the fact that it's non restricted. Where it shines I find, is getting in and out of a vehicle, loading up quick and smashing rounds at a coyote/raccoon/pig etc. Other than that it's just a futuristic 100yd steel banger. And so far, I've found 62 grain bullets to be its most accurate round. Might just be that the 62 grain rounds I've bought were of higher quality.

For cqb or not a tav or x95 cannot match the accuracy of a Norinco SKS over 100 yard. By all means enjoy what you have but the lack of effective distance thanks to the paper skin barrelled tav or x95 should not become an excuse.
