Your Deer Rifle, what are you taking?

Savage 99c 308 and a Ruger 77mk II stainless 30-06 left hand . Getting quite fond of the Savage but both great guns and dont need backup.

A win mod 94 BB in 356 with Williams peep. 200 gr Hornady worked lasr year. An old Mossberg bolt 12ga for dirty weather in the swamps. For muzzle loader season a traditions 50 cal or Rem 700ML.

I'll be using my Winchester 1886 (manufactured in 1889) 40-65WCF. She'll be pushing 260gr of cast at approximately 1350 fps. This will be my first hunt with it. Deer will fear her. Hell, they're already talking.

I'll also have my Winchester 1892 (manufactured in 1910) 25-20 home with me for the hunt, but I'll be using that one for some plinking, and any small critter that makes the mistake of walking out in front of me.

Those are some nice looking Winchesters you there Matt74.

Thanks. I just picked them up since Spring. Dad always had a few around the house when I was young, and I always liked them, so I've started picking up a few myself. I collect (though my collection is very small), but I also plan on shooting and / or hunting with all of them...use them as they were meant to be used! I also have an 1886 45-70 (DOM 1903) and an 1894 25-35. I have an 1895 in 303BR as well, but plan on parting with that one in the near future to make room for another I have my eyes on. Do you like Winnies too?

Matt

A 50 cal Hawken during muzzle season, a Savage bolt gun chambered in 300 WM when I hunt open areas during rifle season, possibly my M14 in the bush.

BAR .270 with Leupold 3-9x40 for bush to fields. Hasn't let me down in the 10 years I've owned it. I'll also bring my 700 in a .35 Whelan and my Long Branch SMLE with the old 1300 yard peep site in case or as loaners. Also, to show them to people, cause they're just nice guns.
Dad will use his .303 PH, and my Uncle will use his 30-06 Rem pump. It's been that way for as long as I can remember.
Good Luck!

Winchester Model 70 in .375 H+H. Using 300 gr bullets. Was using a Winchester 70 featherweight in .308 but the scope is better on the .375. Also have a moose tag, which I would rather shoot with the larger rifle.

My Remington Model 700CDL in 270 Winchester w/6x42 Leupold, shooting 140 Accubonds @ 3020fps. Coming along in case will be My M700 Mountain in 7x57, also with a 6x42 Leupold. Ammo will be 140 Accubonds at 2900. Deer don't stand a chance out to 400+ with either of these!! Eagleye.

Savage 7mm RM, and Win M94 in 30-30 if we go into the bush. With the tags I have this year, it won't be much of a "hunt". Probably end up filling both tags on the same day with the Savage.

martinbns, I would be pleased if you were to use your 35, and I think any deer would be honored to be shot with such a fine cartridge.
I decided that if I had a freezer full of moose, I would use my bow for my up coming deer hunt. On the other hand, I am also taking along my FN Browning Safari 30-06, 165 grain Hornady spire points. No deer has ever been shot by a finer rifle. In my humble opinion.

Now that I have taken a moose using my 338 WM I can put it away and pull out one of my Lee Enfields. If I get ambitious I will use a full military config. No 1 Mk III but most likely it will be the sporterized one with the scope.
If I get REALLY ambitious I will use my 870 and slugs for that 'close up' experience.

Cheers
