New Long Range construction started

Have guns. Will travel when time permits.

Space for trailers to stay the weekend when the dust settles?

Day use only county regulation. I did see campers over the long weekend only a few km away on crown land. Over night camping is at Lambert Creek which is 11KM away. Also a group camp ground not that far away that could be booked when we have a match. Fickle lake is also about 25km away and it is a nice spot if you want to do some fishing and boating.

How many firing points wide will it be?

The firing line is between 20 to 25 m wide and target areas should be a least 20m wide. Hope to get at least 7 benches on the long range and 3 on the medium range, but have not got that far as trying to wrap up the last few lose ends down range. How many prone can one fit in that area?

If anyone wants to see what the butts look like, someone posted some really nice pics in the BCRA service rifle forum of the ones in Chilliwack. I'll be shooting provincials there on the 31 and will take a bunch of detailed pics and video to bring back and share. The spacing mentioned for the new Edson range isn't as big as everyone wants, but hey, it's a start and good enough for some local matches for sure!

Drive to Edson, go to Ron's Outdoors and buy a membership. Supposed to be $100/yr. Then you should be good to go when it's done. Or if I'm off and you have NR rifles, we can hit my field for over 1000m

Vokes target frames are waaaay over engineered (typical gov't military). There are other (cheaper) options that work much easier than the system at Vokes.

We use a cantilever type target frame that, when weighted properly, can be operated with 1 finger. The US uses a very basic vertical pull "pipe over pole" type system.

Nokomis has some well designed vertical style target frames as well, PM Kodiak99317 for details on those.

I shot at KTSA last year and that cantilever system sucks bad compared to the one at Vokes.

The military system of chain and gear needs a lot more maintenance to keep it working - parts and labor intensive. The cantilever system is easier to keep operating without parts and needs some adjustment by the pit crew to adjust for frame weights or to adjust for wind. The private ranges at Kamloops (BC), Homestead (AB), North Star (SK) and Bull Meadows (NS) all run cantilevers.

I guess I dismiss the cantilever systems because they always seem to be flapping and banging in the wind.

The fact that every military range I have been on has cable or chain target lifters is kind of telling.

Yes, an annual membership is most likely going up in price due to the new range and cost to maintain it. It will need a lot more work but we are looking at opening it on or before July 1 to get some exposure. It will be a start and hope that some shooters will help with some butts. Buts can be installed behind back stops at 700m, 800m, 914.4m and 1000m. That should give some options for everyone. All the outer distances metal and targets will be in front for plinking....

Once we open it up we can have a work be with the Experts and get the butts set up for the users then there will not be any complaints as it will be done right. Then we can adjust any concerns once we get shooting as everyone will have input. So far only 4 people have been out so it is what it is.

Thanks for everyones input to date have looked at E -Targets and it is something that 2 shooters are interested in so need a few more to share the cost and then it will save the down time and allow for more shooting

It would be nice to get detailed drawings of something simple to get started. Also would like to put in a few moving targets. Any easy designs that run on simple 12 volt Battery? The Alberta Long Range Challenge had some and we may be able to mount them premaritally on site.

E -Targets for the Longest Mile

Have been in contact with the Supplier out East that has set up E-Targerts for Homestead. System looks great and great concept. With potential Butts at 700, 800,914.4 and 1000m this looks like a good way to go. Can anyone way in on how the E-Targets have been working and how long they have been in use in Homestead?

The are very expensive and we could by a lot of metal for that price. How about Matches? It would be a real time saver and with a new range with out a finished road it will be a challenge to check targets. Have 2 shooters that would like to pool some money so members have access to the the new technology but they want to ensure it works well?

Thank you in advance

You can do more things with a proper butts than with electronic targets. Were it me I'd get butts sorted and then if you have enough interest in electronic targets, you can look at it then.

Hey Ryan, Sean and I will be in Chilliwack on Wednesday night. Can we go to the range with you on Thursday when nobody is there to take some detailed pics and videos to bring back? This new range will be our new home, and I just really want to help out and make it work as good as possible.

if you put in proper butts you can have man powered moving targets.
