Just buy one of them and add the other forend when you want the short one. From the video it looks like everything is interchangeable.
If I didn't already own my SRS and know what DT quality was like I wouldn't be so sure I was going to buy one of these MDR's. But like you said I'll be buying one and a couple barrels.
I love the fact that you can use the same chassis for 223 sized cartridges then swap in a 308 based cartridge conversion and remove the mag block to take the larger mags.
I'll be able to sell a couple rifles. Was going to buy a 308 conversion for my SRS but having an accurate non restricted semi auto is better.
I'm hoping it comes at $3000 or less with conversions around $1000 depending on which conversion is chosen, obviously a 300BLK conversion that only needs a barrel will be cheaper than a 308 that needs a new bolt as well.
Too bad we will have to wait almost 2 years to get these in our hands.

Yeah.... The margins on most firearms are not even close to that....
Then subtract all the overhead costs for storefront rent, employee pay, insurance, heat, hydro, security monitoring, and other associated costs.
Most dealers make peanuts on firearms.
Ammo, accessories, etc... They are the money makers.
I strongly beg to differ.
Perfect example - look at the Armalite AR10 rifles offering by Wolverines that are currently on sale.
The SASS - reg prices $3,340, sale price $2,999.
That's $340 and I have a funny feeling that Wolverines isn't loosing money on those sales.
Next example are the LTM CQP MRP 16'' CL @ Questar. Reg prices $3,699, sale price $3,099.
That's $600 off.
Ryan @ SFRC was just offering 15% off on all hanguns.
I could go on and on with deals like these.
Maybe a supporting dealer could weigh in here,
But I have seen the books at two of the local gun shops. The MAP pricing and dealer cost are pretty close.
MSRP is a suggested retail price (some products have artificially high MSRP) but on firearms the dealer is not making a crazy amount.
Take the $340 "profit" and subtract all the overhead costs associated with running a store. (rent, heat, hydro, web services, staff wages, insurance, etc)
- Also, lets not forget that the capital used to by $100,000 worth of rifles usually comes as a business loan, so there is interest and banking fees on top of that.
so... how much did the dealer "make"?
Keep in mind that if a business isn't able to sell all of their inventory they actually take a loss.
So at a given point, selling below cost may be the best option to recoup some of the invested money.

Here is some simple economics,
If a store invests $100,000 to buy 100 rifles,
and sells them for $1050 (Two friends of mine have their BFL, and the markup on most rifles is $30 -$50)
once they sell all the rifles that is $105,000.... $5000 "net profit"
so they don't start making money unit they have sold 96 rifles.
Now subtract the costs, (rent, storefront, employees, insurance, interest on loan, heat, hydro, security monitoring, etc.)
you are left with minimum "profit"... and any good business would invest the profit to buy more stock.

well I'll be. I guess I'm going to have to buy one!! 7.5lbs is awesome for a 308. As long as this rifle has awesome accuracy, this rifle is mine.
It looks like the magazine release is behind the magazine - right? That would make the MDR ergonomically inferior to the Tavor, as the Tavor can release the magazine with the shooting hand.

Not to pick on you or be a #### but why does everyone expect a battle rifle to be insanely accurate or they won't consider buying one?
Luckily I've already spoken with DT and they are using Lothar Walther barrels and they are free floated so accuracy should be better than most other options out there. I would guess accuracy will be similar to an HK SL8 since they also use Lothar Walther barrels and are free floated other than the short stroke gas system.
Watch the videos posted in this thread and others on youtube and you will know as much as the rest of us. The magazine release is in front of the trigger just like an AR.
There is lots of time to do your research though since I doubt we'll see these in Canada till late 2016.

If I remember correctly, I believe I heard that the mag release is like the AR. There is also another button near the mag well that's for the bolt release? I think it was mentioned in the SHOT SHOW videos. May have to look at the again.
