PRS Match CDTSA Milo Range

Great work Ryan, the match was worth the long drive!

And congrats to Marcoman, great shooting buddy, I'll be looking for redemption in August whether it's up here or down there

Arctic better bring lotsa banana's, hahaha

Thanks bud!

It was great shooting with you guys again! Look forward to August!

Sorry my mistake. Congrats nevertheless! Those are sick rifles!
You were shooting the AR? That wind caught me out a few times using a .260. Must have been some fun shooting a .223!

Yup!

It was fun, but I question my windage zero because I had way more holdover than should have been required. Having a day to think about it, all my 100m dot shots were also to the right so I think my zero was off. For 500m I had around 7-8MOA hold and 15MOA drop. It should not have been that much considering the wind speed.

The little .223 was going slower than pretty much every round there. 75gr of fury launching at a eye watering 2550ish FPS.

I'd do it again tomorrow. Shooting medium ranges with AR's is a hoot. So much practicing required for non-prone type shooting to do though. My stability was terrible.

You won the event? Congrats! I was impressed by the quality of people shooting. Everybody did very well. Saw some interesting things too! (left hand racking the bolt when shooting off barricade!)

Hope to see all you guys at the next one!

Shibby did you dial any wind age for the 100m dots? I can't remember but I think I dialed one or two clicks left.

Nope. I generally try to use holdovers with FFP scope. Where I typically shoot, dialing isn't fast enough and confuses the process with last minute wind calls.

All my impacts were quite a ways right of the dot. I kept adjusting and I think out of 5 only hit one...

More testing required. I didn't get much done prior to the event. All in good fun though.

(You know im just joking with you)

Oh, and is there any way to obtain a PRS club series status? I'd be a regular shooter for sure. Lethbridge's 3 gun nation status is pretty cool. I can directly compare my times with all of the other 3 gun shooters and am on my way to taking home the $50,000 cheque (haha, I wish)

Look into the requirements for an event and members who shoot the event. I think the answer will become clear.

Local score keeping for Alberta or Western events is more likely if somebody were to invest the time and effort.

You apply for PRS here:
http://www.precisionrifleseries.com/event/account/request

It needs to be approved by the PRS BOD. It will have to meet the minimun requirements for a 1 or 2 day match as defined in the rule book.

I strongly recommend attending a sanctioned PRS event before applying. They will likely not grant PRS affiliation if the organizers have not shot one. See the FAQ:
http://www.precisionrifleseries.com/faq.html

Q What is the criteria for hosting a PRS associated event?

A. ALL 2014-15 Matches will be carefully selected based on their professional experience, practical shooting skills offered, and PRS shooter and committee reviews:

¨1. Max velocity of 3200fps for all calibers -- MD’s are encouraged but not required to check velocity on a reliable system.

¨2. Provide an arbitration period prior to announcing final match results.

¨3. Each PRS event is an individual competition event based on individual effort and performance. The PRS has always promoted coaching, mentoring and helping newer shooters get into the sport and to do better at matches, however, in an effort to preserve competition fairness, coaching other shooters, particularly skilled shooters or team mates during the shooters time on the stage is not allowed. ALL competitors should adhere to the intention and integrity level designed within the stage created by the Match Director.

¨4. MD’s must offer a verifiable scoring system which confirms the shooters score immediately after the individuals stage of fire, verification must either be verbal or a shooter initialed acknowledgement immediately after the stage.

¨5. Must present a fair and balanced scoring system to the PRS committee (shot target value must be consistent, no one shot can be valued more than 3 times the value of the average shot value.)

6. MD’s must have a minimum of two experienced spotters on any steel target past 950 yds or use reactionary back-ups.

¨7. MD's must be a member of the PRS and have must have prior PRS match participation experience.

¨8. Participate in the Range Officer Appreciation Program —Program is designed to further reward and increase quality volunteer RO’s at our matches. Up to 5 designated RO’s from previous PRS matches have first priority and a discounted entry (min. $150 off) to any other participating PRS match of their choice. (No more than five RO’s per match are eligible to receive the 1- time per year discount at any one match.)

¨9. All PRS associated events and MD's must be capable of holding and managing a minimum of 45 shooters. Events must have 45 registered to shoot two weeks prior to to the event date, if 45 shooters are not registered at that time, the event will no longer be applicable for PRS points.

¨10. MD's and PRS will work together to bring more value to the sponsors of PRS matches, which includes but not limited to; shipping banners to other match venues, creating sponsor advertising at the match and sharing it with PRS, creating videos or match pics to be distributed to sponsors and the PRS.

¨11. Offer online After Action Reports to all shooters and share the results with the PRS

12. MD's are responsible to ensure their match staff, volunteers, range officers or other spectators do not call out any scoring related judgment other than the words "IMPACT". Unless safety is concerned, any other call or correction that could be construed as aiding the shooter, shall not be made during the course of fire. If a call is not made, it should be considered a miss by shooter, should the shooter appeal the miss within his shooting time the spotter may give an general assessment or the spotter may also rely on other spotters, or designated spotters of which may be appointed competitors for confirmation, the final decision rest in the scoring range officer or MD if needed.

Square range isn't an issue as long as you can fire at multiple distances in the same string. K&M is like that.

Efficiency is a big thing. In order to get the required number of competitors through the required number of stages, you need to have a well oiled machine. Stages need to run in parallel. You want to minimize the amount of waiting around people have to do. At one match I went to recently, they had three squads shooting the same stage because of the way things were set up. That's 30-some people waiting to shoot. It didn't go over very well...

For good examples see how K&M and CORE do it. They will start in the morning at 8am. Take a 1 hour break for lunch, and still put 150 competitors through 14 stages and start doing their final stats by 3:30pm.

Upper nisqually sportsman club is a square range with a fixed firing line. That was eligible for 1 day match prs points, it was a 1 day club match on may 7th.

I stand corrected, maybe in the near future if I can find another one on a fix range down there and the timing is right to possibly attend to see how hey run a match on such a range.

I know that a sanctioned event could never be held at the Milo range but luckily it is not the only range we have.

I think there is a pretty good chance that we can have a decent PRS type league in Alberta (Western Canada?) in the future as long as the interest stays high.

Based on the awesome people that come out to the Milo event I would say the future looks good.

I agree Ryan, thanks to people like you willing to organize events, these types of matches will flourish.

Something else (I believe) that sets practical/tactical matches apart from the others is the willingness to attend without the need for huge prize tables. If the match fee is around $40 there is no need to lure anyone in. If fees start to approach the $100.00 mark I might expect a TEE shirt and a cheezburger :)
