Interestingly, that's about all I can find on her. The fellow who wrote The Cruel Sea served aboard her for a time, but that's about it. One of the multitude of naval vessels that did her time, played her small role, and was scrapped five years after the war.

That is possibly a unit marking. The SS Badge is different.

The Jolly Roger was not solely used by the Germans and that is not a totenkopf on his hat. One of the Finnish infantry regiments used that insignia in the 1940's. As did allied submarine forces.

if it was... he wacked an ally... Germany had military 'advisors' in Finland during the Winter War and the Continuation War.... incidentally so did the British for a period of time. This is an interesting man:
