^^^ have you considered trying a Timney Calvin Elite?

I have one in my Modern Varmint and (in my opinion) it's the nicest AR trigger out there.

You get an assortment of different shaped trigger shoes plus the positioning is fully adjustable up/down fore and aft plus tilt side to side.

It's crazy light for an AR trigger at 1.5 lbs. There is a very short amount of creep before the break (almost not even worth mentioning) but it's extremely smooth. Reset is also short and predictable.

I will have to try that out. Don't get me wrong, the other triggers are awesome, I was just finding something I could nit pick.

Tell me more about this...

I just ordered a 375 raptor barrel.

The 375 will be a lot easier to get working. It's basically a necked up 308. Where did you order your barrel from?

The 45 Raptor is a 460 S&W with a rim. I ordered the brass and I will have to modify the magazines to work. The barrel was in stock and 25% off, that's why I went with it.

Also installed my new barrel on my lightweight 308 with a titanium BCG. If anyone uses a light weight BCG, make sure you use an adjustable gas block. All of my AR-10s use an adjustable gas block set at about 80% open, the lightweight BCG's gas block is only about 20% open.

Did you have to change out the buffer or spring? I have a titanium BCG and an adjustable gas block but plan on using the factory buffer and spring to start with.

700+ really took the mcgowan off the table for me and a Jury barrel will come in about a 100 cheaper than the mcgowan so i decided on the Jury and as a bonus i get to support a canadian barrel maker.
be interesting to hear how she shoots though :)
I'll post up when my .338 fed barrel arrives and I get some range time with it.

Just a heads up that the McGowen AR barrel start under $500. griffin86 barrels included a variety of addn features which raised his pricing.

I am sure your Jury will work great.

enjoy...

Well I got my Stag 10 built and out to the range Friday.

Only shot some cheap Remington core lokt 140gr 6.5 creedmoor and some match 140gr Barnes OTM.

Had absolutely 0 FTF or FTE, unlike my BCL 102

That is a great build.... sorry, missed this post completely. If you need some thoughts on handloads, please pm or email.

I am sure by now, you have got it sorted out.

Love to get some pics for my facebook page. Thanks

I'm sure they are great barrels Jerry but I think we both know why I will never purchase a Mcgowan barrel.
That said, if I ever need another Krieger I'm always happy to deal with you and the top shelf service you provide ;)

I guess they never did figure out how to machine an M14/M1A barrel after all that effort I put in ....
It's a grudge (not directed at you) I can't seem to shake. LOL

My friend and I built our 338 Federal Stag 10s.

A few things about the McGowen barrels. The gas block journal is way too long, now we have bare metal showing. The gas block journal is too large of a diameter. It's a good thing I never video'd it because it took a long time, we had to sand the journal down, heat up the gas block, and twist it on. I've never had a gas block that hard to install.

We dialed my friend's gas system in, in less than 5 shots with the Superlative bleed off gas block. Mine is still not 100%, it won't lock back the bolt on an empty mag. I swapped out the buffer and spring for a JP silent captured spring to just to rule out it. Both rifles have had zero fail to feed or fail to eject.

We fired a few rounds at the range, it was looking alright, it's really cold so we were rushed. All my shots were spread out horizontal, I have a feeling the groups will tighten right up.

Sorry, just got the link for this post.

We never mentioned a shorter then standard gas block so I didn't know to change that spec.

Wrt to the journal diameter, the barrel diameter should be to the desired spec plus or minus a thou or two. There has been on occasion where the stacking of tolerance between gas block and journal lead to a tight fit.

If there are any further concerns, pm or email. Happy to make sure the barrel works for you.

Thanks

Jerry

That project definitely didn't go as planned but we had discussed the low odds of success given the complexity of setting up for M1A barrel manf. They definitely tried to figure out a way to make the barrels economically but it just didn't work out.

The McGowen barrels are indeed working very well... but happy to help with another brand as desired.

All the best.

I got a Mcgowen barrel and had no issues with the gas block.

I used a slr rifleworks clamp on.

Just had to make sure the gas block was spaced off the shoulder because the gas port is set 0.050” further.

That is standard on all mil spec AR barrel’s to leave room for the mil spec hand guard end cap. People forget this and inadvertently cover the gas port.

i did not know this was standard practice, thank god mileageman helped me build my upper.

I do not believe there is a 'mil-spec' for modern AR10 sized rifle regarding the gas port location. I've seen AR10 barrels as either 0.250" or 0.300". I believe gas block manufacturer just default at 0.250" so they can be fit anything.

If I remember correctly on a AR15 the 'mil-spec' is 0.295" for the center of the gas port from the should. That way with a traditional FSB & handguard cap the gas port will line up perfectly with the hole on the FSB. I've dealt with installing 4 FSB's with handguard caps on barrels for my vintage / retro M16 stuff. All the caps I've measured have been between 0.020" & 0.025". Regardless most gas blocks have much larger holes than the gas port in the barrel and can withstand quite a bit of misalignment, but 0.050" would be a bit much.

No Problem there DiabeticKripple, anytime. And we'll have to hit up Rocky when I get back, so get a few hundred reloads ready!

I probably should post my build in here as well, I'll try and make time over the next week.

I know this is off topic, but I have this big urge to paint my stag 10. I have done this with other rifles and it turned out well, but I don't know if I should do. It to one of these rifles. They are goddamn beautiful... Someone convince me either way lol.

You should go for it!

I was thinking about cerakoting them. I was building a couple of those blemished FDE stag sets and wasn’t impressed. The tolerances were off, had to hammer out the take down and pivot pins.

What ever floats your boat, but just take into account it will reduce the resale segment.
