Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

There is far too many unknown variables in the equation for me personally have any faith in the guesses as to when we are getting our transfers. I will believe it when I see it.

If anything its just to settle people's expectations and avoid some anger haha... Some people were saying they're expecting their June 3 transfers this week. i mean someone said there's only 2 guys working on it. takes time to train people for new tasks, they're probably unionized as well, wouldn't make sense to hire people either, what are they going to do afterwards? Incentivizing existing people to go faster is just asking for trouble in terms of conflicts of interests against why this process exists in the first place. My only hope is that other provinces can finish off their pile and help out ON

You can not rationalize the behaviour of the bureaucrats mathematically or humanely.

Sorry, but how the actual fvck are they only doing 1,000 per week? The RCMP sends them all the info and then they do what exactly... physically compare electronic RCMP records to their own, simply checking that the names, address, and numbers match? Like sh!t, the system could be automated flipping through a dozen or two transfer per minute and maybe only flagging high volume (individual, not business) buyers and sellers for manual review?

It should only average 5 min per transfer request if the above is assumed to be correct... they should easily be able to pump out 1,000+ / week with 3 people working on it... 350 / week is equivalent to one guy spending 6 min per transfer (average)... either their process is extremely convoluted/inefficient or they really only do have 1 full time guy on it which explains why they slowly creep months behind until they bring in a second temporary guy to help clear the backlog.

And for what it's worth I submitted a complaint to the Ombudsman yesterday, two weeks after my transfer started, June 29 #59542xx, add me to the data set. Wolf is there any way you can post the spreadsheet?

Edit: Also, just started a private transfer and buyer called in and did his part (July 14), #59684xx, add that to the tracking too.

Yeah, I'd love to know exactly what is done to complete and approve a transfer at the CFO. Especially since if there was any reason to deny it, it would have been denied when calling in to Miramichi. CFO approval is really just a pointless bureaucratic rubber stamp.

It is a google sheet, but cannot share without sharing my email, .... I can export and upload it somewhere, just not sure where to upload it. And I 100% agree with you that they should be able to auto approve 99.9% of transfers. We talked about it in another thread, there is no will to improve the process, does not generate votes.
If you want PM me with your email, and I will share the google sheet with you as a viewer.

If they told you, they would be out of job because everyone would realize how pointless it is.

And here is updated version with new data, plus dates based on how fast they can/will process:

59342xx purchased May 31. Transfer initiated Jun 13 due to the inability to get through to an agent. With the speed of transfers these days…approval next spring. Then Canada Post snail mail. Then there is the wait for the actual registration certificate. So by my calculation….. maybe Thanksgiving 2023 I can hit the range with this purchase.
….Disillusionment is setting in…..

Well, at least if you've made multiple purchases, separately by a few days, you'll have plenty of time to get to know each one before the next comes...
Even if new law gets passed, these couple of Ontario transfer guys will have job security for a little while

My question is what happens if one of these stores go out of business while transfers are processing. What's the accounting classification for an in transfer handgun that has been paid for lol

Or you forgot you even bought it.

New tactic today is to cancel a private transfer and next Monday call in and start it again in the hopes it goes to a provincial CFO that is quicker than ON.

Just an Experiment.

Purchased (dealer) on May 30
Transfer initiated May 31
Transfer notification July 5
Received firearms July 8
Received registration certificates July 15.
