Are Canadian Street Cops Outgunned? The Debate over Police Handguns in the 1990s

“Are Canadian Street Cops Outgunned? The Debate over Police Handguns in the 1990s"

"Outgunned" with either a revolver or a semi-automatic pistol ?

Rule no.1: Do not miss. If you do miss, you stand a much better chance of being "outgunned". Much better.

Rule no.1 was valid in the 1990s and is still valid today.

When the federal liberals and our provincial ndp idiots here in bc support soft on crime policies based solely upon identity politics, yes our police are desperately outgunned. Not to mention demoralized. This cancer must be cured with an election asap.

Nobody is suggesting they need anything new. What is your point?

The question posed in the article is whether or not the police are outgunned. I would like to know how they are outgunned. Seriously. I have no issues with police beint equipped with the best tools for the job. Id like to know where we are lacking in that regard. - dan

The article is about the police in the '90's.

You didn’t read the article I see.

Edit:

Your later comment leaves my question still unanswered. Who has been saying the police need more equipment in 2023? The article is about switching from revolvers to semi-auto in the 90’s.

I did, and while the latter part of ot is true, I doubt very, very much that criminals in general are better equipped than the police in this country. - dan

The debate isn't about being better equipped, it's about being "outgunned", meaning more lethal; as in criminals using AK47 to the police using shotguns for example.

Like Highlander said, the criminals can use whatever guns they can get their hands on, and they have no restrictions on when and how to use these guns.

Cops can't go into a store and start shooting indiscriminately, but criminals can and often do.

Cops have to ensure that any rounds they fire do not injure or kill innocent bystanders, but criminals can spray and pray and not give a sh*t.

The issuing of AR15 carbines and other such rifles has somewhat levelled the playing field in regards to firepower, but the criminals still have the edge.

Lots of ak47 attacks on police now? I must have missed it. And as the police have AR's that pretty much levels that. I've noticed a few municipalities with armored vehicles as well. I don't think they are outgunned at all. Out lawyered, certainly, and betrayed by our governments, but that's a different discussion. - dan

I have seen no one in this thread suggest police need new firearms.

The title of the article you likely didn’t read has thrown you for a loop.

....The issuing of AR15 carbines and other such rifles has somewhat levelled the playing field in regards to firepower....

Not between Government and the law-abiding, it hasn't. Just the opposite.... must have been one of those amendments to The Social Contract that we've neither seen nor signed.

Another dum story of the 1990.. crap we are 30 years later…how far back are you willing to go to make a post ?
This is BS and irrelevant to todays world - 33 years later.

The article was published on August 1, 2023, and is intended by troublemaker antis like Blake Brown to support calls for yet more gun control in the future, not the past.
