The T97 Thread!

Well here’s a new one.

Part way through shooting today I had rounds start tumbling… bad enough to hit my muzzle break.
I took it all apart to find out why and I can’t see a single thing wrong.

Leaning toward some bad ammo but I feel like that’s a stretch.

Any ideas?

Well, seeing as if I had a problem with my rifle, YOU are the guy I’d go to for potential solutions, I don’t know what to advise other than to try different ammo. Maybe take the brake off though first.

P.S. how do you like the angled fore grip? I’ve had a WTB ad up forever but no takers yet. I’m hesitant to pay the steep full retail price from the T97 site for a new one.

I love it. Nice transition to switch up hand position.
The prices can be a bit steep but I have no regrets.

Yeah I have it all nice and cleaned up. Going to try it out again with other ammo before replacing it.
Really threw me off guard lol. Nearly 5k rounds with little issues.

Rather fancy brake with lots of holes. I suspect that you may have some burring at the end of the barrel. Can't comment on the brake. What kind of ammo did you shoot? How many rounds did you shoot with that brake on?

I measured some of the brakes I used, this should never happen. The bullet must have literally tumbled out.

I shot some western metal reloads when this happened. But I’ve been through a lot of them without issue.
I’ve shot ~3500 rounds with the brake on.

I can’t see any burr or anything when checking the rifling. Would also be weird to happen part way through a magazine.

Yeah the target had rounds tumbling after the first 3 shots of this mag.

I’m sort of at a loss.. I was expecting to see a piece of jacket or lead or something lodged in the rifling like I have seen with 22lr but nothing. Looks shiny and perfect.

My bet is on the reload. Case was separated.

Maybe. If that’s the case.. hopefully there’s no actual damage to the gun I missed.

Can a bullet correctly sized to barrel actually tumble in the 2.5” of length of the brake? Looks weird. Undersized bullet? Jacket separation so that the core is tumbling?

I’d think it would be tumbling further out. Which I seen on the target.. but then I seen the damage and I was like wtf.

I'm definitely interested in purchasing a T97 over a Tavor due to the price point, but wondering what if any aftermarket changes can be made?
- Carry Handle removed for rail?
- Upgraded charging handle
- Mag release
- Front grip assembly with rails

  1. The Gen 2 and 3 have a full length pic rail, (no carry handle)
  2. Lots of aftermarket/home 3D printed charging handles available
  3. Aftermarket (improved) mag release available
  4. Pic rails can be modded to fit OEM hanguard, but short of finding a T97.ca LHG, you are limited.
Three out of four ain’t bad though.

If you buy a gen 3 it covers most of that.

Lower rail than the T97.ca upper.
Folding extended charging handle.
Larger mag release button? Maybe. Maybe I’m thinking of the T97.ca one.
Find a LHG aftermarket or you’re doing drilling into plastic.

The first semi for me was a T97 Gen 2, I finally got my hands on it! I'm curious about what optic you use for general plinking. I've seen people run LPVOs but also red dot + magnification, I've never experienced either except an Elcan and am not sure what to dive into. TIA and cheers!

It's all going to depends on what you think it most important. LPVOs are like ruggedized traditional scopes that give you a 1x but are large and heavy. Red dots are not the most precise but are the fastest and you don't have to worry about aligning your eye or centering the reticle, if you can see the dot in the window, that's where your impacts will be - magnifiers give a lot of capability to your dot and can be removed if you don't need them to save weight, or if you need an observation device that doesn't involve pointing a weapon at something. Prism optics are most like the elcan you're familiar with, except typically much lighter.

I use a red dot+magnifier on my X95 but also just picked up a primary arms SLX 3x prism because it's small enough to fit on my T97 Gen 1 carry handle
