Hey guys,
Just received my Bren 2 Carbine, the Polymer looks a bit dirty/chalky. I was assured this is within "normal" range and I noticed similar finish on some other Bren pictures (but not always).
Any idea how I could clean this up a bit so the finish looks more uniform? I heard of things like sanding, dying, using oil-based cleaners, etc. but I don't want to experiment too much on a 3k gun.
I know its aesthetic only, and yes I care about that kind of stuff.

I think it is a function of the reinforcing Carbon-Fibre that is embedded within the Polymer to give it added strength. I wouldn't mess with it too much. You could try oiling the surface and then wiping it off, but that would be about all that I would attempt. If you use Black RIT dye, you will dye the Grey-ish Polymer Black for certain, but not necessarily the lighter, hair-like Carbon-Fibre "streaks" that I believe are the main source of your concern.

Damn bro is that a 20” barrel?Not very happy with the accuracy. Prone with rear squeeze bag. Slight 6 o'clock breeze. I'm going to clean it, check the screws, and try again tomorrow.
I fired these groups over an hour. Between each group I walked to the target and let the barrel and gas block cool down.
First 5 round group was Winchester Open Tip 62gr. 4" group
Second was Federal PowerShok 64gr. One went off the paper on the right. 9"+
Third was Barnes JHP BT 69gr. I shot two 5 round groups. There were two shots off the left side. 8"+ group.
What's wrong with the rifle? I've owned blown out Lee Enfields that would keyhole tighter groups than that. Your target, was this at 100m?

It was a “bad reamer”. They most likely have a button pusher running their lathe, slapped it together and charged an exorbitant price for a “match barrel”.
Then to fix the chamber, they just ran the reamer in further and called it good. That’s why the barrel is even more crooked and the gas block is pressing into the handguard.
I have a primary arms 1-6 on mine. Using an ADM Recon QD... appears to be 1.47" for 30mm. To be honest at the time of shopping the higher mounts were not in stock so I didn't even consider them. The height seems to work fine for me based on my cheekweld.
Have not done any prone shooting with it yet so can't really comment on that.

The high mount is great for people who wants to clear LAD or in general doing helmet + tons of accessories and wanting to keep head straight - pretty specific type of job or maybe you got tons of structures to clear that sort of things
But for sports shooting and other field shooting, especially laying down prone in low profile position, high mounts means cranking up da neck back wards even more. Think about it. Also high mount doesn’t do well in unconventional positions, but unconventional positions are totally useless with a helmet and tons of stuff anyways. Do you have tons of stuff or just a t shirt like more normal people do?

And also - the more the difference between the bore and sight , the higher the chance to put bullet holes into the barricade say doing the 9 hole. AR is still kinda manageable with a lower bore axis, but things start getting iffy as more height is added IMHO
I don't shoot factory ammo, too expensive compared to my own reloads.
With reloads I have 2 pet rounds that I run in the Bren for accuracy competitions:
Load 1:
-77 gr Berger OTM or 77 gn Barnes matchburner
- Loaded to max COAL that will fit and reliably feed from the magazine.
- moderately heavy load of varget, @ 2620 fps
- CCI BR-4 primer
- 1 to 1.25 MOA, supersonic out to 700 yards
Load 2:
- 75 gn berger VLD
- Loaded to 0.005" back from jam, does not fit magazine and must be single loaded
- Max load of Varget @ 2690 fps
- CCI BR-4 primer
- 0.75 Moa, supersonic out to 900 yards
Couple of words of caution. I use LE Wilson FL resizing die and bullet seating die for precision loads. Controlling concentricity and neck tension are critical. If you have base model dies from any of the manufacturers this will be difficult to achieve reliably. I also trickle every powder measure to the 0.1 of a grain.
I use hornady dies and 55 gr campro projectiles for my "bulk" reloads for CQB style competitions. These loads are 2 - 2.5 moa on the best of days but for close range stuff (50-5 yards) they are plenty adequate. And are much cheaper and faster to produce for those days that I am going to burn through 200-400 rounds in a match.
