Crusader Arms Crypto

I am doing a retro built, think Colt Model 602. Anyone chop their brass deflector off? Or would I be blazing the trail... is it even worth it?

That's exactly the type of build I'd want to do as they just look so iconic. I'll be watching the thread to see your progress

Just to give my 2 cents from 2 range trips with the Crypto. The rifle is not near as purple in person as what it looks on pictures. Factory mags are cheap but so far no issues. Possibility of "upgrading" the mag well to STANG mags. I will also be upgrading some parts in the near future (Trigger, grip, stock etc). So far it looks very promising. Perfect rifle for guys who already own ARs looking to put some parts to use.

I’ve upgraded mine to the STANAG magazine.

So much better.

No turning back.

I had ordered a bunch of extra crypto mags from Crusader back in September, I have been billed without receiving any mags. I requested a refund and got crickets.

Correct decision on the upgrade. I wouldn’t bother buying more crypto mags

Im on the fence about getting a crypto or a raven. Im not a fan of crusader arms QC. Im trying to get the closest thing I can to a quality AR and an atrs Modern sporter is out of my price range right now. Few retailers do have crypto in stock but I dont want to get one until im sure the unit I will get will have a perfect black anodizing. For thoses of you who have both wich one will you choose?

I don't have both, but I do have multiple Cryptos (receiver sets) and I highly recommend them to everyone. You put your own quality parts in and they will not let you down.
Ive never built an AR. It dosent look too complicated, but I was wondering how hard it is to source quality part on the EE and retailer?

Dealers are not stocking quality parts as they once were.
Parts do turn up, of course. Might take a while to collect the exact parts you want.
At least Trigger Tech triggers are Canadian made.

I have both Crypto and Raven.

They both do the same thing but the Raven is much prettier - it’s damn near a work of art.

The Crypto is really gassy too!

For at least a thousand dollars less, I’d probably go Crypto.

My rifles get carried on my property - in the Foothills, and middle of the forest.

They’re often wet, snowy, cold and banged around. The Crypto has an imperfect finish to start and makes an excellent ‘bang around’ that you don’t have to worry about as much.

The included dust cover is nice too, as I had to buy three expensive pieces, to completely block my Raven from the elements.

Buy both. Haha.

I will wait for Bartok5's review of the MK3 and go from there. I know it is an obsession but I learned over the years to keep a cool head. The next best thing is just around the corner. And then my closet full of stuff I cannot shoot. No Ar's though. But I remember holding a Norinco AR in my hands at Lever Arms, price was $784 as far as I remember, hahaha.
I bought one for 599$ back in the day. It was a 4-5 MOA piece of crap that had an out of spec chamber but once i got that sorted out....it was pretty darn solid. Sadly I haven't had it out since the ban.

Man. Norc AR’s had been the bomb. I had one of the early gray/ blue painted CQ-311’s it looked like a SP1 but had a funky lumpy handguard.

I sold that and bought the M4 version. Then a pencil barrel A1, and a pencil barrel M4. All ran well and I never dropped more then $599 on one.

I’ve made my pencil barrel A1 into a Vietnam era clone with proper Brownells furniture.

My Pencil Barrel M4 is now an XM177 clone, complete with a very early Aimpoint.

The quality of the Norc AR’s kept me out of the high end AR game until our Police rifle supplier offered heavily discounted Colt Canada C8’s in an IOP program - That rifle is very near and dear to me, and has an emotional value that can’t be monetarily quantified.

I'd like to see both of those. I had one of the original CQ311s as well; bought it used for something like four hundred bucks. It was solid, and with better furniture (had to get rid of that ugly-ass stock, handguard and grip!) looked decent. Wish I still had it, to use all the parts for a Crypto build.
