That list to get the Battle of Hastings is missing a huge number of battles, rather pathetic how much they skipped to get ti it! The Ottomans alone lost about 50,000 in the Battle of Vienna in 1683 (the anniversary of battle with the Hussars charge was last week) then there is the Polish sides losses probably 5 or 10,000, totally missing Gettysburg and Battle of Waterloo.... the Chinese Waring states battles, the Romans and Carthage, the Persians and Greeks had battles with tens of thousands dead, the Romans lost 3 legions in Gaul, Islamic army invasions into India had huge numbers, Mongols were huge too...

Beings it just came up.

Completed F6F Hellcats and F4U Corsairs are seen in storage awaiting transfer to the Pacific front at the Naval Lighter-Than-Air Station in what is now Tustin, California (1944).

(description continues:)
Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto had predicted that, "for a while we’ll have everything our own way, stretching out in every direction like an octopus spreading its tentacles. But it’ll last for a year and a half at the most." This photo is why.
