Tavor VS Type 97??

Well Boys and Girls things just got more interesting. I'll post this here for all that don't frequent the red rifles forum. CanAm announced yesterday that he's importing non-restricted type 97's. Check out the red rifle forum for more details! Oh yeah...the price? $850 shipped:eek:

Hands down getting one.... And I have to thank Clobb... after all if it wasn't for you I don't think there would be nearly as much interest on here for them... so much so I think CanAm should give you a freebie just for talking them up so much... *cough* HINT *cough*

LOL - thanks but somehow I don't think that's going to happen:). Glad you liked the posts..they are great rifles...a non restricted version will sell like sh!t through a goose.

I'm interested...PM me with the details.
At the time i e-mailed you i had no news. nothing significant at that time. now there are two people with Tavors with scope rails and improved triggers, one with a nice bipod and maybe some other things they dont want to talk about. They challenged Lector to some kind of shooting contest. They seem to prepare for war in this contest, i mean they are very serious about it, but so is lector.
We will have a Tavor vs. 97 competition after all. Yeeeeepieeeee:sniper:

Wow...this should be a heck of a shootout! Does it involve accuracy and reliability? After seeing what lector can do with the modified 97 while hyped up of coffee and cigarettes I think they got their hands full! Perhaps I could be the fly on the wall note and photo taker?

i know i shouldn't say this because i am not sure what his intentions are in this case, but it seems to me that lector is interested only in pure accuracy. he usualy doesn't care much about malfunctioning or anything else in competitions. but there are these other guys with the Tavor and we don't know yet what there principles will be.

About what he's capable of, they say lector was reasonably good when he was in his prime. Now he is half old but not enough that he lost interest. i would consider him to be a shooter so 'n so, but he is capable of a tremendous power of concentration over very extended periods of time. On the other hand, the Tavor shooters are young and aggresive, I know for a fact one of them is an accurate shooter. And at least a Tavor rifle is modified by pro's.
i wish we had a competition between rifles, not shooters.
lector doesn't like cameras around him, but we will see in this case.

This is getting good:D...pm me if you are able to share details of time and place;)

Thank you guys for all the fine reading for T97, but after jumping around few forums within CGN, I'm wondering which forum it will end up with: black rifle or red rifle? ;)

... BS...
Member 22Short_improved is a little drama queen who exagerates things.
(one day I will be back on that).
First of all, did you ever see me drunk????
... let alone drinking and shooting...
(I’m sorry to ask you all this in a public forum).

And generaly about drinking (not related in any way to shooting)
remember there is a huge difference between drinking and being drunk,
and a huge difference between being drunk and being an alcoholic.

I do not think I bullied anybody on another range,
I was talking to some friends from Van Isl. I didn’t see in ages.

About my addictions:
Coffee doesn’t affect my shooting.
Neither do cigarettes (but they kill me slowly).

The rifle: mid-lenght 97 (restricted).
It had about 21k rnds through it
in the hands of about 3 owners.

Mods:
-re-crown
-trigger job (less than 3 lbs), much improved trigger altogether.

Ammo: a friend’s carefull re-loads.
Scope: borrowed attention-whorring custom-made Zeiss
of about 4000 euro, very un-suitable for “bench” shooting
(or for anything, since I can’t see shyte through it).

Me and my shooting abilities:
I consider myself in the bottom 15% of the shooters.

:)

No, I didn't suggest you were drunk or anything. I even said "(not drunk)". And I was expecting to see a lot more explanations here. What you wrote are just the headlines. I knew some things you did to my gun, but the details would be more interesting b/c you never talked at large about it. One more thing. You banned me from taking pictures of the gun so i hoped that you would post some.

So if you consider yourself in the bottom 15% of shooters, and you can't see shyte through the Zeiss, I can only deduct that the type 97 is an inherently accurate rifle design? I mean those groups wouls be impressive for a match grade semi auto let alone a lightly modified type 97 with over 20k rounds through the pipe.
These are sub MOA ten shot groups we are talking about here:Your thoughts please.

Those groups are VERY inconsistent.
I know 18 year olds that can kick my arse any time
(at least 50 of them).

About the scope:
Member 22S_I says that I can’t do without high magnification.
That is about right.
I can never have too much magnification if I shoot for groups.
For me, the idea of “high magnification”
starts when I can see the texture of the paper.
That is when I shoot for groups.
Otherwise, when I’m plinking
(ex. gongs, steel silhouette, etc.)
any scope bigger than 4x would do.

The scope used on this target was
a borrowed custom-build Zeiss with
variable power (but it is not a “Diavari” model)
up to 24x, cranked on max.
Diameter is 85mm, it does a good job in filling the space with
the front lens which comes down close to the top
of the handguard of the 97.
Whoever ordered it with that kind
of reticle (heavy duplex with mildots)
must have had some un-known and perverted purpose in mind,
since I can’t see shyte.
The duplex is very-very heavy (thick)
and the mildots are big like meatballs.
The reticle covers a lot of the target
and I was kind of guessing when shooting.
For 100m I prefer the simplest and thinnest reticle possible
without graduations or mildots
(since I use other procedures if I have to “hold”).

One more thing about the scopes on the 97.
It is very important that the shooter makes
all the efforts to level the gun (eliminate the cant).
I cannot emphasize enough how important
the leveling is when shooting for groups,
since the huge distance between the
axis of the bore and axis of the scope.
I used 2 levels alternatively in addition to the internal one
the scope came with.
The slightest cant will open the groups big time.

Me shooting:
I am not what 22Short_Improved says about me.
I do have flyers, more or less, depending on the situation.
I have wrecked groups (that were large enough already)
with flyers against all odds.
Whenever you have a large group and you believe that you
can’t fcuk it up any farther, send it to me, I may prove otherwise.

I find it very very hard to benchrest
that particular rifle and bullpups in general.
They were built with CQB in mind, no target purposes.
I used stands for the forend
and sandbags for my elbows, etc.
(I learned it while shooting some other short guns).
It can take a while (few thousands shots)
to get used to benched bullpups
My upper body and both my arms
are wrapped around the rifle.
It is a very awful position
(just imagine an octopus raping a small cat).

Thanks for your kind reply.

Would you please share the picture of your scope mount with GNZs? I assume yours is better than Realsword airsoft mount.

Thanks for the reply Lector..I'd also like to see your mount design.

Your tips about rifle cant hit home with me. It's something I didn't watch to closely when I shot my shorty off the bench - although I was only using a 4 moa red dot. I'll watch it closer next time and post the results.

Cheers!
Clob
