Who's comparing them to a 700? Have you ever owned or shot one?
Had a look at one at the range, watched the guy fighting with the bolt jamming it , swearing. It was his first time out with it. No I would never own one

Shot with a Remington 710 in a 7rem at 100 yards using a bushnell banner 3x9x40 scope,
The scope started to creep after ten rounds so now it has a bushnell 3x9x40 3200.
Three rounds are touching each other if you notice.
As for the rifle itself, for a bush gun it is a good price. Reliable even in the worst weather conditions, it does feed bad if you get into a hurry to cycle a round but keep your rifle cleaned and it will work fine.
I kind of thought so.![]()
The crappy Remington 770 went back to the gun store yesterday, I put the Savage 111 on order. It sucks that I won't be able smash any coyotes over my holidays but I'm glad I got rid of that future headache.
I have had several older (pre 1996ish) model 700's. One reciever has now seen at least 5000 rounds and is on it's 3rd barrel, it has never had an issue.
Thanks for all the input guys. I think it's safe to say the majority rules on this thread and the majority says the 710/770 is crap.
could that be because youre offering a $150 chinese milsurp for a $480-580 factory rifle? But I'm a stand up guy, I'll make the same offer I do to so many, send me your 770 and I'll send you an SKS. Still haven't had any takers.![]()
I wouldn't be cycling any live ammo through any gun unless I was pointed downrange at a gun rangeIn the meantime, a buddy of mine just bought a 770 in 30-06. Came with a scope(low end, but functional) as well. I believe he paid about $460ish to $500 for it. I bore sighted it for him, and he's eating moose this winter
Why don't you try it first, I know of a lot of guys that had the 710/770's and haven't had any trouble. If you are only going hunting every couple of years, it should outlive your grand children.
Is this $480 rifle s**tty?....... compared to a $450 Stevens package, yes.
