300 Fireball AR15 (Brass forming - post #150)

Exactly just that, very tame...although I suspect the Spex plays a HUGE role in that!!

Those guys at the range were pretty funny though - "Dude, what the hell is that - a paintball gun?" I loved your explanation - "uh, if this is what we take paintballing then we're not going to have any friends left after the game."

Clearly they'd been doing a little too much shooting without ear pro... lol!

The thing still hurt the hell out of my ears the one time I decided to shoot it without my muffs on - it did sound pretty quiet through the muffs, so I thought "hell, I'll pop 'em off and see how bad it really is." Yeah, bad idea. :runaway:

We just finished this sick 300 Fireball. It has a 9.5" heavy 1:8 match barrel under a Daniel Defence 10" Lite Rail. The gas system is pistol length and features a custom super lo-pro adjustable gas block to fit under the slim DD rail.

Aren't you using the prototype, though?

No, mine was the third one built. As usual, just when I think I know what I am doing reality whacks me upside the head. :slap:

Double-you-tee-eff?

Man that's weird... did you take some mass off the BC? Is there some debris in the gas tube?

That sucks...

Yes, it is infinitely annoying. The problem seems to be the muzzle device is blowing powder residue back into the chamber causing the next round to stick short chambered. The hammer then hits the back of the carrier without hitting the firing pin so you end up with the hammer down and an unfired round stuck in the chamber. I have had to pound the gun open several times now. d:h:

To see if this theory is correct, I am planning to try it with a conventional brake next time.

Ah, yes... that makes sense. I thought it was a problem with the ejection phase of the cycling, but now I see that it's a problem with the chambering phase.

Much more difficult to sort out, to be sure... especially with a nicely-cut chamber that's "right on" in terms of size.

Hmm.

I know ATRS polishes chambers like Mr. Clean polishes floors, so that's obviously not an issue... I suppose that the only thing for it is to experiment with the muzzle devices, as you have been.

I wish you luck, in any case.

Let me know how this goes for you ...had mine out @ the range on Sat and was having the exact same issue. Had to seriously go apesh!t on the handle to unstick the partially chambered round.

Feeding one at a time though was sweet as can be though!

Pics to follow shortly!

The 300 is definitely a head turner...gave it to a couple of guys to try it out...

...to say they were blown away by it is a gross understatement!

You very well could be getting a phone call in the next couple of days!

Running a SPEX brake, the rifle functioned flawlessly albeit a bit louder than I was hoping for.

Yardie, I'm not sure why your rifle would be blowing crap back into the chamber with the same setup that Doc and I are having success with. All three SPEX were bored out the same so they shouldn't create back pressure problems. How many rounds would the rifle go before sticking a round?

One way to check for sure is to give the bore and chamber a good cleaning and then remove the SPEX to see if that cures the problem.

I let Mr Spartan try mine on the weekend and today at work he was contemplating a Whisper of his own. :owned:

Yeah, I was talking with yardie about this today and suggested the same as you, Suputin. He checked out the chamber and said it was smooth (not that we doubted, but one has to go through a process of elimination)... Hmm.

I'm going to have a look at it when he's back in town on days off, and we'll get to the bottom of this - damn it!

It's not related to blowback from a muzzle device like yours has been, because all that's on there is the SPEX. I won't know for sure until I get a look at it though.

Mine, just to brag (even though it was YOUR hands that put it together) continues to run with such boring regularity that it's getting more and more fun every time I hit the range.

Yeah, I did the same when it first happened to mine. We actually pulled the rifle apart and repolished the chamber but in truth I don't think there were any issues with it in the first place.

Yeah, I'm thinking a 6mm Whisper myself though, got to be different

LIE! You were all over the 300 till I talked you out of it. :owned:

I think that is twice this morning I have owned you. :slap:

Finally have some pics from Saturday at the range.

As I said, even though it was 'one at a time' it was a total blast!!

Actually, I think my G/F enjoyed it even MORE than I did!!

Sooooooooper happy to finally be on the range, had a LOT of rounds begging to be fired!

Not sure if I should 'ready' it...

...or caress/kiss it!

Oh yeah...targets...

Next time I'm at the range, I'll give it a shot with the Spex removed; process of elimination and all that right...?

We'll get it figured out I'm quite sure!!

Yardie!!!

#####in' pics! It looks ALMOST as good as another setup I seem to recall... hmm, maybe the one that I have sitting in my... nevermind. :p

I look forward to seeing you and the missus again when you get back from the boonies, and hopefully we can sort out that damn gremlin by putting our heads together.
