Guys, a couple of us spent some time on the weekend trying a few things out. Here is what we learned:
1. Ruger 10/22's with 25 round mags rock! Ok, we already knew that ...
2. Make sure your rifle is in good repair and will work consistently if pushed hard to perform. Sight in your rifle and make certain you know where it will hit at ranges of up to 50 yards. With this in mind, practice with the ammo you intend to use at the match and have a healthy supply on hand.
3. IPSC timers will not record the shots of all 22 rifles, so we will need to use some other means of timing the event. It is likely we will need stopwatch ... any suggestions as to where to buy or what to buy?
4. Shooting steel is a lot of fun and easier to deal with than taping paper. We also found that IPSC pepper poppers can be knocked over by 22's. If you set 'em just right it takes a double tap to do the job!
The steel goes over easier if it is hit higher.
We will also have bobbing targets available to us.
5. Stages of around 10 or 12 targets seem to feel pretty good to shoot. Those with limited mag capacity (tube fed or no extra mags) will find they need to hit more consistently to score well. It's looking very likely that we will have different classes of rifle in this event in order to accomodate the wide variety of 22's that will show up.
I'll post any further updates as they occur ....
