Isnt this just "Mini Rifle"?

That said it does sound like a good time. I keep thinking of hosting a match some time.

I wasn't aware of 'mini rifle' when I put this together, and in any event I think a little hyperbole does no harm when publicizing an event. :D ;)

In the end there may be some similarities with 'mini-rifle' (the use of 22 LR, for example), but the final result will likely be quite different. I looked through the UK website and it seemed to me that their event was indoors, while our will be outside. In addition to this, we will try to keep steel and not paper the vast majority of the targets shot at.

Gothmog, I hold you and your shoot fully responsible for justifying my purchase of yet another gun! :D :shotgun:

I only had a single shot .22, so I bought a Remington 552 on the EE.
I'm going to have to practice speed loading the tube mag, hopefully I'm not too painfully slow

Ok this is really beginning to snowball .... (cool! :D ) ... by all means keep posting on this thread, because its very encouraging for those of us that work hard to create these events but also because it shows how much interest is out there.

However, I'm beginning to think that I'll have to set up some kind of confirmation system a week or two before the match to get an accurate idea of how many participants we will have. That way we can be reasonably prepared ... I don't want to think what might happen if I expect 20 or so and get 50 shooters instead!! :runaway:

My contribution to this is the steel targets I am building. I tested two of them on Sunday, after the regular match, and a .22 does have enough bonk to knock them down. So I welded up 4 more tonight, and I'll do another 4 tomorrow night. I'll try to scrounge up some more discs to make additional ones also.

Also, my Tac Rifle article is coming together, and should be published soon. It will have a brief mention of Action22.

Thanks for pushing this, Gothmog.

Guys, a couple of us spent some time on the weekend trying a few things out. Here is what we learned:

1. Ruger 10/22's with 25 round mags rock! Ok, we already knew that ... :p

2. Make sure your rifle is in good repair and will work consistently if pushed hard to perform. Sight in your rifle and make certain you know where it will hit at ranges of up to 50 yards. With this in mind, practice with the ammo you intend to use at the match and have a healthy supply on hand.

3. IPSC timers will not record the shots of all 22 rifles, so we will need to use some other means of timing the event. It is likely we will need stopwatch ... any suggestions as to where to buy or what to buy?

4. Shooting steel is a lot of fun and easier to deal with than taping paper. We also found that IPSC pepper poppers can be knocked over by 22's. If you set 'em just right it takes a double tap to do the job!
The steel goes over easier if it is hit higher.
We will also have bobbing targets available to us.

5. Stages of around 10 or 12 targets seem to feel pretty good to shoot. Those with limited mag capacity (tube fed or no extra mags) will find they need to hit more consistently to score well. It's looking very likely that we will have different classes of rifle in this event in order to accomodate the wide variety of 22's that will show up.

I'll post any further updates as they occur .... :)
