Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

Armedsask, I just read through the FAQ's and read, "Now I Own One: Let’s make it work". What the ...? If I am going to pay $1000, is this thing going to be worth it? They are considerably cheaper in the states so I think we are getting screwed over here just because they look cool and are non-restricted. If you looked at this as unbiased as possible, are these AR 180's worth the money. I am hoping to buy a semi .223 ASAP and need HELP!

The AR180B's are work great right out of the box. The have the odd hiccup just like any rifle. Perhaps I should rename that title "Now lets make it work flawlessly".

After doing the little tweaks I have listed, my rifle has NEVER had a stoppage, failure to eject, or any other issue that is related to the firearm. Let me say that again, NEVER! As in, not a single ####ing time.

The AR180B is a great rifle for the price. That is my unbiased opinion. Try and find something else non-restricted that takes AR15 mags and works great for under $1000. I DARE you.

To be honest, the rifle works fairly nicely out of the box. A ton of fun to shoot, and with 20/20 vision I'd still buy it.

My recent model has the M4 feed ramps so I doubt I'll ever see feeding problems, and to my relief it consistently ejects (with Win and Rem 55 gr FMJ ammo) to 1-2 o'clock, which means lefties like me can safely shoot it without having to worry about trimming the ejector spring (which I heard some lefties had to do to stop it from ejecting in their faces).

The things that weren't so hot were a) it took some elbow grease to start the elevation adjustment on the front sight going since it was really tightly screwed in, as well as some general tweaking to get the front sight adjustment working smoothly, and b) let's be honest, the trigger pull, while usable, is significantly heavy.

Speaking of which, is it difficult to disassemble (and reassemble) the trigger group and give it a polish if I want to improve the trigger a little without having to spend for a match trigger group? Anyone have a link to instructions?

The AR180B trigger group is the same as the AR15, it just has longer pins. Any AR15 trigger polishing or tweaking guide on the net should translate over to the AR180B.

I was looking though my owners manual today and noticed that nowhere does it mention anything about adjusting trigger pull. I am used to the 3lbs pull on my precision rig and 7lbs (standard in the 180B-2 if memory serves me right) just seems way to much. Can anyone tell me or refer me to any material on how to adjust the trigger?

Cheers

It doesn't have an adjustable trigger. It is based on a design for an infantry rifle, it doesn't need a match trigger pull. That being said, if you read the FAQ, you'd notice that the AR180B takes standard AR15 trigger groups.

If you want a match or adjustable trigger, you'll have to go out and buy one.

Thanks alot. I have read the entire post and thought I remember them being able to take AR-15 triggers but was just lazy to check it out again.

cheers

Thanks Armedsask. Got my bravo this week, bought a specter 3 point tactical sling, ordered my stock adapter and receiver rail from Josh just now. Now to order my MI quad-rail, Rock river adjustable stock, and EOtech.
What am I forgetting?....................Oh right, ammo. What, if anything, has everyone heard about a possible storage of .223. Some local dealers I've spoken to say they won't sell 1000 round bricks anymore; after being told there will be no more shipments to Canada of American Eagle for 2008.

Hey guys,

I am just wondering how reliable the 108B is with minimum amounts of lube? I realize that lube is one of those things thats always better to have instead of not but has anyone experienced the effects of lube deficency? Does the weapon jam more often? feeding problems? etc.

When it comes to lubing your firearm which parts do you guys actually lube? Do you use a grease type or wet oil like lubricant? I wish the firearm manual went though some of this stuff.

Hopefully this is a valid question not yet covered.

Cheers

P.S. After re-reading this post it is almost an invitation for jokes about lube :dancingbanana: haha

I run mine nearly dry, just a drop on the bearing surfaces and run it around with my finger.
I don't have any oil preference.
Don't use a solvent like WD-40, it isn't a lube.

Anyone know what kind of buffer tube a 180B-2 would have to use if I wanted to run a Magpul CTR stock?

I suppose I would have to run something like a StormWerkz Ar-180B Carbine Stock Adapter. Does anyone know if those are Mil-spec or Commercial size?

Cheers

P.S. Thanks for the lube reply
