Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

I called Wolverine the other day hoping to purchase a 180. Apparently they have none in stock and aren't quite sure when they will get them. The gentleman said that they may appear late summer as Armalite was producing a new lower- possibly aluminum. Does anyone have any info?

Word through the grapevine is that Armalite has been working on an aluminum lower for a while now. I've never seen anything on it but my sources are reliable.

I have not recieved my 180B yet and have a question before I order the MI Quad-rail. Does cutting off the front of the recoil spring guide rods void the warranty on the rifle?

Thanks.

I doubt it would void the warranty as Armalite had been selling the MI forearm themselves for a time.

Storm Werkz mount and Leupold PRW rings, what height of rings do I needed to clear the rear sight with a Leupold VXII 3-9 x 40?

Does Wolverine still have some of the AR-180B-2s in stock? Or are they also not coming in at the moment like like the restricted version? How much does a NiB AR-180B-2 go for anyways same price as the shorter version?

Heavy Barrel

Q: Can I put a different or AR15 barrel on the AR180B?
A: Sure, you could have a custom barrel made up but that would probably cost the same if not more than the complete rifle.

Apparently, the AR15 barrels and AR180B barrels have the same threads. One could theoretically thread an AR15 barrel into the AR180B barrel trunnion. Setting the head spacing would be required and the gas hole would most likely not line up. It may be possible to make an AR15 barrel work if the gas hole was drilled specifically for the AR180B. I intend to try this some day.

Can you put a heavy barrel on AR180B2,is so how many other parts need to be changed?

Hmmmmmm. So, to beat a dead horse.

This hinge problem. I understand, don't let it drop open, don't bend it, etc.

However;

In general use as a fun bush gun, is there a significant risk of the hinge point failing while closed? By this I mean, is the gun weak enough that having it slung over your back and catching on a branch could crack it? It you leaned it up agains something and it fell, say off a table, would that be enough to mess it up? I'm trying to get an idea of exactly how fussy these receivers are.

While we're on the topic, is the rough shape of the lower similar to the FAL lower? AKA - front profile is a U shape with a block at the back?

EG - something like this, but with attached pistol grip etc?

Ellwood Epps got 3 Armalite AR180B-2's in stock just lately... when I looked at one there was only 2 left. Then I bought one, now there is only 1... told 3 people locally that were interested. I'd be quick. $1179 was the price.

The rifle is strong. The breaking of the receivers is due to user error and/or manufacturing defects. It is not a common issue. Considering how many AR180B's are out there, less than 1% ever break.

You will not break the gun during normal use. It isn't made of glass.
