Customized P-17's

Gibbs 505, you should have met my first wife. 30 years ago she was that hot and probably deadlier. I wouldn't wish that female on anyone. Several tire kickers had to find out the hard way though.
Cole, I'm very glad to see that you are actually practising off hand shooting. That is extremely rare these days at distances over 50 yards. Most people are glued to the bench and bags. Good for you.

I no longer own a P14/17 custom rifle but the ones I did in the past were usually good shooters and always absolutely reliable. The only P17 clone I have now is a Mod 30 Remington in 25-06. It shoots very well with light bullets only as it has a 1-14 twist rate. Interesting rifle though, the only reason I keep it is that it has a custom scope mount, built by an old friend, Les Viel of Vernon, BC. Alas he too has gone on to the happy hunting ground. Nice guy, I miss him.

Cole,I'm still working on the stocks for the 358 and the 308.Someone else started with a Bishop and a Fajean .These are Monte Carlos, with a closed grips and oval fore-ends.They are magnums, so they are getting magnum stocks. I have a P-14 sporter with modified Boyds JRS classic stock, sorta like an English stalking rifle, open gripped, with a slight tapering and upsloping fore-end.It's gotten compliments at the range. The 358 is still deep bellied to keep the four down easily. The 308 is straightened and shortened. The P-14 has a drop like the military stock.

Roy Dunlop's book "Gunsmithing" has a lot on the Enfield as the Yanks call it.

The P-14 sporter got a B-Square?? floorplate button release from Brownells.Bill and I have tried three different hinge and release floorplates. The best so far,has been slotting the hinge and a lever like the orginal release lever, but longer with a button. There is room for improvement.

I don't have no camera, certainly no computer skills to post if I did.

I have used both Dayton-Traister and Timmey triggers, both have trigger shoes so sharp as to cut your finger.

Oh,if you haven't alreasdy replaced ejector spring with a coil spring,it's best to do it. You can buy the kit from Gunparts .

Ok, I'll give a try. Here goes !

Some guy showed up and had a Caldwell Leadsled and let me try it out with my piece. This is with Winchester XX 165 PSP, at $22.00 a box. Spooky , ain't it??

.300 h&h p17.

Here's my P17 "money pit". Based on a Remington M1917. I got it in typical sporterized condition. Had the original barrel re-chambered to .300 Holland&Holland and had custom stocked. Like it well enough but lately thinking of re-barreling to something bigger ie:.404 Jeffrey etc. Lord knows the large action can handle it. Then again I just might trade/sell it. One of those new Ruger No.1 .300 H+H rifles is calling my name.

2" groups until the lead sled arrived, then one ragged hole. Seems that the rifle will shoot and you have your work cut out for you.
Have fun!!!

I picked one up at a gun show a few years back
Young fellow said it was his Dad's custom P17 in 30-06...took it out next day for a run ,but the 30-06 shell rattled around in the chamber...I eventually found out that it had been rechambered to 308 Norma magnum....someone did an awful nice job of customizing on it ....but the stock is ugly .
I'll see if I can dig up a photo of it .

Anyone ever convert their P14/M17 to .416 Rigby? Is it possible?

Would be an interesting route to take with a custom build...or the .300 H&H is something I've always wanted...

Mine should be back in mid January, I'll post picks then.
300WM with detachable magazine, its off getting a new stock at Wilcox Gun Works.
