Definition of a Fudd gun??

Yup, I see the 760 and 740/742 at the top of the list for Fudd guns. Anything that was cheap to buy and cheap to feed factory ammo from the local hardware store.

The list ....

- Remington 760
- Remington 740, 742
- Winchester M94
- Marlin 336
- Lee Enfield
- Early 700s and 70s

I went to the Eganville gun show recently, which many would probably consider Fudd country. This list accurately described the contents of probably 90% of the tables. No jerky though, which was a shame as I wanted some nibbles.

Gatehouse that really should be a pump action to up the fudd. Points could be awarded if the rings tip off to the side

Bonus fudd points if the mag is loaded with 220's and 180's. :d

Disagree on M94 and 336 to many of us that was their first deer gun ( still have mine ) , that was what got me into centre fire rifles. Fast, fun a stepping stone onto other stuff.
Almost fully semi auto.

I agree also on the M94's and Marlins not being Fudd guns. They are Pioneer rifles. Of course the Fudd line gets crossed when one puts a big scope on one though fer hunting. :runaway:

Like a dis.

My 760 (30-06) has Weaver 4X with swing mount....shot my first buck with it back in the early 70's using imperial 180's. ☺

Second generation Fudd guns would be upgrades on the previous list like the BLR and BAR would replace the 94 and 740. Many 303s got put away for more modern bolt actions like the tanger 77s and early Savage etc.

The Euro Fudds would be shooting Husqvarnas, BRNOs, SAKOs and early Tikkas etc, all in 3006 and 270. They wanted something different but didn't want to stray too far off the path with strange, old world chamberings.

My definition of a "Fudd Gun" is a SXS 12 gauge, internal or external hammers, with buckshot. Honorable mention goes to the Winchester Model 94 30-30 and the Remington 7600 pump 30-06 or 308.

Ok, I'll bite.
The most popular gun among Fudds seems to be some sporterized version of an SMLE in .303 British. If they like to hunt other things, then a Cooey single shot 22 or combination 22/410. If other birds besides grouse are on the list then a break action 12 gauge possibly sold by Sears & Roebuck.
These are also known as "The farmer three" as gun collections go.
Are you asking to fit in, as it were? Undercover Fudd so to speak?

Have some respect for the OP :)

It should have a 4x non-variable scope, leather strap made from an old belt, and notches carved for each deer shot. Maybe even has someone's SIN number pencil engraved somewhere.

These are in the 10 ring. Steel must be blued, the furniture must be wood, and slings must be leather. But to capture the modern Fudd, you have to add in $10,000+ skeet and trap guns and Weatherby rifles.

What is the accepted definition of a "Fudd Gun" and the expected accessories that come with it?

Best to reply with pics if possible, general thoughts and experience, but please avoid any "Fudd vs Mall Ninja" lines of conversation in order to keep this thread on a positive note.

Any gun that a fudd uses while bad-mouthing every other gun that's not his/her gun.
